wheels and tire size recommendations

Hi All,

So next up on my build is wheels, tires, and coilovers.

I'm thinking about 18x8.25 or 18x8.5 wheels but mainly leaning towards 18x8.5 or in the case of XXR they only have the chromium black in 18x8.75

I'm not tracking the car but just do some daily spirited driving but I really love the look of the WedsSport TC105X except the price but I've heard are some light wheels. The only other wheel I've found that's similar to that look is the XXR 527s

Does anyone have any recommendations to similar wheels?

Ideally I'd love to have that clean look on a white BRZ and wanted to know whether its worth getting the 527s and what bolts to get and what tire size to get to fit the wheels if I did get them, I'm conflicted between 225 or 235s

Imho OE bolts should work fine, unless you plan to use slip-on wheel spacers thicker then 3mm. But if you are buying new wheels, why not buy with right offset initially instead of using spacers?
If not tracking, not worth going for too wide tires, retain some fun instead of tramlining, i'd go for 225.

You need sidewall in street cars, every little bit helps for a more compliant ride.

I agree. Also 17 is usually lighter than 18. Lightness is important for this platform. That’s if comfort and performance are important. I am on 17x7 STI wheels and Michelin PS4s 215 45 and grip is amazing. So much so, I miss my A/S tires that allow some oversteer. They go back on in November.

If looks are more important than get what you think looks good.

The most popular sizes for this car are 17x9 and 18x9.5. Most people run 245/40 on 17x9 and they run 245/35 or 255/35 on 18x9.5. Acceptable offset range for these sizes is +35 to +45.

If you want similar looking wheels to XXR 527 and TC105X check out Konigs Dekagram they are flowformed and light weight too. I personally have these and love them. Agree above for a street car i'd get 17x8, 17x9 or 18x8 wheel sizes.

225/40-18s are closer to stock diameter than 235/40-18, which are 0.5" to 0.7" bigger in diameter. I'd say either aim for 225/40-18 on 8" - 9" wheels, or bump up to 245/35-18 on 8.5" - 9.5".

I see only one extra gain for 18", and it might be mostly for twin owners in EU. All new top UHP tires like MPS4S, Conti sportcontact6, Goodyear eagle f1 SS are available only beginning with 18" size, limiting a bit tire choice to earlier tire models for those running 17", or getting tires from other classes.
Not an issue for US twin owners, as eg. MPS4S available there in 17" too.
Rare occasions when one upsizes wheel for BBK clearance imho shouldn't count, as it's not clearcut that all 18" will have better clearance as to some 17", and one buying BBK usually does homework, which wheels it clears.

I do also plan on supercharging the car within a year as well so I'd like to keep that in mind also....so would the recommendation be to go up to an 18 inch wheel and bigger tire to a 225 size?

I wonder if these will have enough clearance with a 17+ with the bremos that come from the factory

Yep they do! From what ive seen the 17x9 +40 wheel size does clear factory Brembos. You can check out these threads for examples:

Supercharging is no reason to go 18" as tire widths up to 255 are readily available for 17s.
17x9 with 245/40-17 will work fine

I was running 235/40 17 on 8" RPF-1 turbocharged at around 270hp and grip was fine.

The Enkie's fit the OEM Brembo's as well.

18x9.5 if you want the hotboi concave looks, 17x9 if you're a performance guy. I'd skip the XXRs and get some higher quality wheels, but that's just me. Nothing wrong with them for a ultra budget wheel
