Oil Change in 90 Sec..

Has anyone seen this new tech from Castrol? It's basically an oil cartridge. Not sure exactly how it works though.. I mean what about the oil left in the engine?

My dad works for Castrol, he told me a little about it. This is going to be built into the engine design so we wont see it for 5+ years at the very least. It is cool stuff but I think its more or less going to be for BMW / Mercedes ect. when it first comes out. This is not somthing you can/will beable to retro fit into a car.

Looks like it's just a dry sump oiling system with a removable remote reservoir. This is one of those "no one thought of it because no one cared" type of inventions.

You hit the nail on the head right there... Haven't dry sump systems like this been around since like the 70's? The only difference seems to be that this reservoir is removable.

Yes, but one has to admit that oil changes for DIY'ers will be even easier....

I like the idea as long as it is a dry sump type of setup. There probably isn't any more oil in the lines, then most oil change places leave in the pan.

If they can make the modules including recycling cost the same as an oil change at a shop, they could put oil change places out of business. I would love the convenience of doing my oil change while I fill up the gas.

Think printer cartridge economics.

Only one manufacturer for your application.

$750.00 per oil change. It's so easy. See?

I like it. I hate changing oil. It's just a nasty mess.

"If you build it, they will come"

There is probably a segment of the market that would pay for it, depending on how it was marketed by manufacturers. Cool technology nonetheless.

It'll be universal like batteries, starters, alternators, and ect..

You won't be spending $750 every time. Your old cartridge will simply be exchange for a new one or drain/refill.

True. Big companies don't just spend millions R&D a product without extensive research on possible market first.
