Track wheel and tire size?

What wheel and tire size seems to work best for the track?

I plan on running NT01's, just not sure how big to go with the horsepower that is available.

depending on your driving style, 225 up to 245 would be perfectly fine for track use.

245 will result in slightly slower times if there's a lot of higher speed straights on the course.

Wheel widths will be preference but should match the tires. 17x7.5" w/ 225/45-17s will be a killer combo, esp if there is big brake clearance.

17x8" w/ 235 or 17x9" w/ 235 or 245 tires would also work.

If the nittos NT01 are sized like the Maxxis RC1 (both comparable R compounds) they will actually be bigger than street tire size. What I mean is, my 225 RC1 are actually as wide as my 245 PSS. If you get 245, make sure you realise that it wont probably fit on stock suspension (either touching the spring, or the fender depending on your wheel offset). 225 might be my sugestions. Im full exhaust + tune and running 225 RC1 I cannot power oversteer the car at all unless im really trying to drive bad.

I'm running 245/40/17 Rival-s tires on 7" wide wheels for Autocross CS right now without issue. I have the TRD lowering springs and TRD sway bars also.

I have this urge to get 245's on wider wheels for the track but I just don't want it to be too much for the horsepower.

Pretty much what mav1178 said.

Then again I seen Miatas spank everyone on 205/50/15. So......
Tires < driving skill.

I recommend 225. and if you start sliding around, think about your corner entry.
larger tire will mask many mistakes but you will be slower. Go fast on 225 to refine your skills, if you are just in for a few laughs in the turns, at high G's then go for the 245, it is fun to play with the grip.

Not to mention weight, HP, suspension setup, etc. That's not even a remotely valid comparison.

I run a 17 x 7.5 with a 225 rival/ rs3 v2. Never had an issue with grip.

Im also in the boat of compound > width.

NT01 is a great compound, I'd personally start with a 225/45ZR17 with the largest rim width they recommend for the tire which is an 8.5 but an 8.0 would be fine too. Nice thing about these rim sizes is that you can safely go to a 245/40ZR17 later if you like. The NT01 has a very stiff sidewall so running it stretched or pinched shouldn't impact response too much.
