Your car is fine. If there was an issue you would be showing a check engine light. Don't feed the trolls.

ACTUALLY. Here is the deal. Your car probably is running a little leaner than preferred. You have changed how the air enters and exits the engine without compensating for that. You probably shouldn't go WOT much until you tune for the changes you have made.


The backfiring is unburnt exhaust igniting in the exhaust pipe. When you're on decel the fuel is basically being dumped which is what causes that. When you had multiple cats any unburnt fuel was being burned off before you could hear most of that process.


I probably would wind up getting it checked though since you said you were unsure about your air filter installation.

That is also misleading, there can be issues with a car without showing a CEL.

Probably? You're contradicting what you're saying. Initially, you claim that his car is running more lean but then you're saying the pop sounds are from excessive unburnt fuel. I had popping noises and crackles from my exhaust with just a catback. The fact of the matter is, modern OBD2 compliant fuel injection strategy is monitored very closely, and almost any small issue will turn on the CEL.

I am not contradicting what I'm saying. There will always be unburnt fuel in exhaust. When you get rid of the cats and restrictions that unburnt fuel igniting in the pipes than becomes audible as pops (backfires) and burbles.


The 02's seeing no cat is what triggers the CEL here. In larger terms there can be motor damage with no CEL. That isn't the case here....

A completely lean combustion chamber has no fuel in it.

no tune yet? probably the problem. threw a new intake in? now engine has more air than ecu can know what to do so it threw more gas in there = ¿?
