Lug Nuts, do they matter?
Answer: Apparently not! I see people driving cars around with one or two lug nuts missing all the time. ![]() Seriously though, great thread as I too wanted to know more about this topic. David, could you elaborate on the titanium pros and cons. I know they are VERY expensive, strong and lightweight. What are other issues with them?

I used these in the past but for the life of me couldn't remember the brand until you mentioned them. They are also 7075-T6 aluminum and not very expensive for the set, come in lots of colors if that's your thing.

Keep in mind lightweight aluiminum or even titanium lugnuts need more attention. Steel lug nuts you can usual put them on and forget about them. Aluiminum should be retorqued on a regular basis. They can loosen over time much more the steel.

Other than pure looks/bling, why can't you use your factory lugs on aftermarket wheels?

I'm about 95% sure Subaru has a conical wheel seat and lug nut.

Yup, the "seat length" is shorter than your standard aftermarket lug nut/wheel. I'd still recommend aftermarket conical lug nuts for aftermarket wheels.

I used my stock lug nuts with the new wheels. They were both conical.
When you install new wheels, make sure to tighten them on sufficiently. Any manufacturing process will have some tolerance associated with it. Tightening the nuts on well will "coin" the surface so that it mates up properly for the remaining service life. I noticed a little metal bunched up along the inside diameter of the stud holes (which is OK).

Get a set of Muteki lug nuts and be done with it. Doesn't matter which model, they're all solid.
I prefer black Muteki SR35 lug nuts or just the basic closed end ones if you're on a budget. |

I was looking for the "why" behind such decisions. Not just, "I like x". That doesn't help me learn.
