My FR-S had it's radio installed without the USB plugged in to the back of the head unit. No wonder my phone wouldn't charge... Double check that the monkey who installed your head unit plugged in all the wires.

I think the USB port on a BRZ is in the glove box if I remember correct?

The way Android and Apple signal charge rate is different. Android just shorts the data connection, Apple chargers send a specific voltage that tells the in-phone battery regulator what rate it can charge at. Charging an Android phone on a USB plug meant for Apple products won't hurt it, but it may limit it to .5A. Both will be limited to .5A on a computer or other connection that also has data capability (e.g., our car's plug).

I have seen some components (Motherboards) that support the iPhone charging...protocol...for lack of a better term, It will be cool when these standards get...ummm standardized...

It truly is a pain in the A$$ to only barely maintain state of charge on the phone while broadcasting bluetooth audio

I'm betting the guy didn't plug my USB in. Will test out tonight.

I seem to remember the base FR-S radio manual stating that the usb port provides 1.0 amp. As previously mentioned however, the port has a data connection, so it probably wont pull the full amperage available.

Edit: I have heard of people making dedicated charging cables by shorting the data pins in the device side of the cable (leaving the host side disconnected and insulated.) to get around this problem.

I have an iPad on a RAM mount. I use a splitter to charge and sync it with the Bespoke. One day I'm sure I'll get around to installing more USB ports.

It won't recognize USB or my phone. I'm thinking the Scion stereo guy messed up. He managed to scratch the trim while installing. Yes, they replaced them.

Some of you may not be aware of it but there's a second "cigarette lighter port" in the glove compartment for those of you running out of ports to use for your devices.

Hate to bring up a semi-old thread but I'm having a sort of similar issue. During a recent road trip my phone (Droid RAZR HD) had 1% left on the battery. I plugged it in to the USB port and my car recognized it but it would go from charging to uncharging, to charging to uncharging, and so on.

Since it charges for 1 second at a time I feel like it has the capability to charge properly, but it just doesnt. Has anyone found out any info in regards to why shit doesnt charge? And please no dumbass answers

I had similar issues when I was using an expensive USB cable from Best Buy. Picked up a cheap one from RadioShack and no problems since

I've had similar problems with a samsung tablet. I can charge it with the wall plug only when it is off but the same USB cable charges fine in the car with a cigarette lighter adapter.

I was browsing around and found this:
[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Satechi-Converter-Cigarette-BlackBerry-Playbook/dp/B004X71HXU"]Amazon charger[/ame]

It says "Smart-converter is designed to enhance charging compatibility for smartphones which are powered through Micro USB connector and enables quick charge for your device. It may also be used with PC or USB wall charger."

I don't know if I trust it but it sounds like it might fix my problem.
