Best Jerrycan that fits into our trunks

I want to start running E85 @ track days but I know I am gonna need a good amount and would rather not pay the high prices at tracks. I am thinking between 8-10 Gallons should be enough bare in mind I can arrive at the track with about 1/3 to 1/2 haft of a tank.

Thoughts...

People easily burn through 3/4 to full tank of regular, and e85 gets about 25% less mileage, so I would say you would need closer to 15 gallons. More is better so you can make it home too.

I run E85 at the track regularly. Some food for thought:

- I arrive at the track with 3/4 of a tank and bring 12g with me. I will run 4-20 minute sessions and arrive home between 3/8 and 1/4 of a tank using the 12g I brought
- If you have long, high g left handed sweepers, you can/will fuel starve below 5/8th of a tank. On the track i run when we are going ccw, I will fuel starve by the end of a session if I go out with less than 7/8 of a tank. It only happens on two corners, but it is really annoying when it happens

If I were you and you have the possibility of fuel starving based on the track, I would try to bring out 4-5 cans with you based on your low fuel level upon arriving at the track. I use VP fuel cans that each hold 6 gallons. I bought one hose for the can top and switch it out between jugs.

Unless you're taking a shit load of e85 to the track, just use gas. I've run into the fuel cut on e85. It's real. It sucks. It ruins your day.

You can fit 4 of those in the trunk if you're comfortable with laying them on their side. Otherwise, you can fit 5 of the regular 5-gal red jugs in the trunk (standing up) from the local auto parts store.

I burn through about 1/4 tank of e85 per 20 min session, but I'm FI.

Those are the ones I use. As mentioned, I lay them on their side, just don't forget to tighten the air vent before laying them down.

The correct answer is ANY.....

6x 20L jerry's. The yellow and outer red ones are low/wide and will actually fit with the non spare wheel carpet/plastic mat still fitted.

For streets of willow I am able to fill up at santa clarita and arrive with a bit over 3/4 and bring two 5 gallon vp racing jugs, I put them in the back seats with seat belts. For buttonwillow i will bring 3 5 gallons, 2 in back seat and one passenger..

I ended up using all 10 gallons at streets which meant I was able to leave with almost a full tank at the end of the day and I ran every session for the full amount of time allowed.

Great thread!! I am planning on driving to Dallas from hemet, CA and was thinking about getting some kind of external fuel cell or I guess gas cans lol. E85 goes pretty quick and there just isn't enough stations on the trip to Texas.

Bringing back a thread from the dead. In case anyone is figuring out to fit VP racing jugs in a 86 for track days and like me you’re not comfortable laying them on their side. You can fit 4 upright 5 gallon jugs, with the backseat folded down and then a bungee cord around them to keep them from moving.

Jerry Cans work and they don't care which way you lay them. You can runs these over and they won't leak.
