If you think automatics are reliable then you probably never owned a Honda or DSG.

Hmmm for something so great it's odd that we are were we are at, 3% and dwindling. It still doesn't erase all the problems people complain about in here of the manuals. In fact if you correct the gearing on the autos as people do with a final drive swap, they are equal or better in every way than their manual counterpart. The service manual can be a set of novels for a auto trans. but the fact is manual transmissions time are up. Instead of trying to fight against the inevitable, I'd just try and accept it and not let a transmission be the central part of choosing a vehicle.

For me a manual will always be at the top of my buying list. For the record, my car has 80k on it and I have zero complaints other than the TOB which I will be replacing this weekend with the revised bearing. But I also know how to drive. The FRS is the best feeling tranny I have felt other than an AP2 S2000 and I've driven a ton of cars. |

Normally it is THE central part of a vehicle. Auto equal or better in every way?

Again, I was just venting. It is reasonable that the manual is dying. The internal combustion engine will also go when electric cars take over. This is inevitable. Mandatory auto pilot will probably be the future too. Im guessing cars will be shuttles that we don’t even own someday, but just pick us up as needed. I know what is coming. I still plan to whine about it because venting is healthy. In his defense he was responding to one of my reasons for wanting a manual besides the fun factor, which was less problems and maintenance. |

Last year of production was 2015, but the Nissan Xterra Pro4X is maybe suitable - Frontier chassis and drivetrain with SUV body and seating for 5. Has 4.0L V6, 6-speed manual that pulls hard, selectable 4WD, and 5k lb towing capacity. Accelerates well and is decent in corners. Then you have the true offroad ability which puts it in the same company as the FJ, Jeep, and Hummer.
Or just get a non Pro 4X 4WD model and mod as desired:
