Even though most of us here wouldn't pay over MSRP I bet you there's some original AE86'ers that wouldn't even blink an eye after having to pay more. So even if they have to sell 5 or 6 before they start pushing them out at MSRP or lower, they will have definitely made much more than the original $7500 they were looking at making off the 25.

At any rate I don't believe it for a second when they say Invoice is what their cost is for the car. :P
Don't forget holdback, which needs to be included for profit. Plus the admin fee. Usually the admin fees that I've seen lately are $500 plus or minus and holdback on a Subary is 2% of total MSRP, so if you figure 26k as a median (it's a guess of course) you are looking at $1,320 per car, $33,000 total for those 25 cars. IMO the dealer simply found out or realized that 25 cars was a full year of his stock of BRZs. 100% of them and decided to pull the deal.

Now that's before you factor in the cost of doing business, etc, but really dealers usually make money on service, parts, etc more so than new car sales. It's easy to get most any normal car at close to invoice, or less with rebates, so the admin fees are paying commissions and not much else.. I think I bought my S2000 at $50-$100 over invoice, price agreed to over a phone call. Obviously not the first year, but I have no doubt that in a year people will be buying BRZs basically at invoice.

Seeing the SoCal Giccin Special unravel, however, I realize that is was wishful thinking all along.

Just finished reading this whole thread and I kind of feel a little sick to my stomach. I just can't believe that there's only going to be 1200 of these cars on the roads in North America this year because if that's the case I'm sure I haven't got the slightest chance of owning one.

Dave, are you guys promised the first 3, or just promised 3 at that price? I'm just wondering if they got some guy coming along saying that he'll pay MSRP or MSRP + $1000 if they can jump him to the front of the line.

And another question, how picky are you 3 going to be on colours if they really are only getting a couple in for the whole year? Think you might settle for something that's nice but isn't the top choice?

It is their one chance to really cash in and very few dealers will pass on that opportunity. My point was that there just can't be 1200 cars alotted for the U.S. for the 2013MY. If that # is true then the dealers won't be able to what you are describing either. They will get their 2 cars sometime between may 2012 and august 2013 and they will sell 2 cars and that will be it.

Plus if that # is correct, they aren't going to dump 1200 cars on the market in the spring. it will be fall before some of the dealers even get their first car which would totally contradict what they are telling everyone.

I just can't believe that everyone is getting their panties in a bunch because some dealership made up an almost unbelievable lie in order to get out of selling cars to a small group of people in California.
Whoa whoa whoa. The group deal wasn't a small group. I didn't even add the number of people who referred my name earlier before the group buy. It was looking at 25+ people who had put down a deposit.

But if he did lie to me (which is a possibility) then.. well I was just SOL.

Just read that thread too... 2 Subaru dealers near Montreal told me there would be only 200 to 250 2013 BRZ in Canada... wtf! I did end up putting a deposit on one, refundable if price is too high for me...

Just as an example: WRX starts at 32,800$CAD while around 25,500$ in US?.. thats totally insane.

You put so much work into that Group Buy from what I could see. It's not right that Franky guy led you on/used you to do his legwork if he knew it was impossible this whole time. He should've had the decency to tell you upfront that it wasn't gonna happen (or at least be honest and say it was very unlikely) instead of watching you hunt down heads for him then break the news to you after all the work was done.

So do we actually have confirmation from someone high up in SOA that we're only getting 1200 cars a year, or is this just what some sales manager said?

What the sales manager said, according to what the rep told him. Smells like bullshit.

Future, I would predict that Canada gets less than Amurrica. Do you know what your original WRX (2002) import numbers were? IIRC, they were low for us and I would think even lower for you; at least for that model year.

And when I say low, I mean ~18000 were sold in 2001 as MY2002 vehicles (according to RUDIMENTARY and SHORT online searches).

It was from a SoA Corp. Rep.

Then the sales manager relayed it to me.

Which would imply that U.S. should get at least 2000-2500.

Subaru generally gouges Canadians. Makes more sense for them to ship more proportionally to Canada instead of the States if they are looking to make the most bang for their buck.

The SoA rep around here is saying 0-2 per month depending on impreza sales. That's far more believable.
