Also... it's Not AS1 they're not selling the prototype camouflaged cars It's ZN6 and ZC6.

I think you have bigger problems to deal with than convince us it is not the AS1. Like saving up money for the car. Even SOA said their internal code for the car was AS1. They designed and built the chassis/suspension/engine, so I will go with what they said.

There are no supply problems any longer. That has since been resolved.

Hopefully that doesn't happen to you. I would just be prepared as there is a good chance they might pull this on you. I hate dealers.

YES their internal code for the car during development. BUT on the VIN on the actual cars there's a metal plate, you've seen it, it's been posted a couple of times before

Look

"ZC6"

If you google AS1 nothing aside from our forum name pops up, if you Google ZC6 or ZN6 the 86 and the BRZ will pop up on the search result as far as the PRODUCTION MODEL you will own it's not an AS1. The American ones are the same, Plate I check while I sat in a BRZ

Really sorry to hear Giccin's group buy is falling through. The reason it did is because no single dealership is only allowed 'x' number of shipments. But the rest of what he (Gary?) said is not completely certain, guys! It's just what someone above him told him and plans from above can always change!

The last similarly anticipated car was the 2003 350Z. Is there anyone here who dealt with that willing to share your experience? I spoke to a Scion rep/enthusiast who has been to briefings on this car in Japan/LA. He discussed how the 350Z had fantastic sales the first year where demand overshot supply. Then had horrible numbers each successive year. Toyota does not want the same to happen on the FR-S and dealers would only get 1 or 2 a month, some none (I've posted this before). I'm trying to wrap my head around that logic. Can anyone synthesize?

Car is still vaporware until I see it in person.

This forum uses AS1 as an easy distinction to speak about the two twins easily and quickly without having to say BRZ/FRS/GT86/86. Just makes live a lot easier. Even Hachi has the forum title as AS1. So I will stay in my ways.

Synopsis if true: Toyota/Subaru are being ****s to keep supply artificially low so that demand stays high. If this is the case I am out! Quicker than you can say jalapeño. I will give my money to Hyundai or someone else. I don't need to play games trying to get a car that is purposely being held back because the company is full of d-bags.

Edit: so maybe Leeky was right/had some truth all along?

The point to take away is that with limited supply or increase demand/interest you will have an increase in prices (as shown by secondary sale of Apple products at launch). Same principle applies here: increase interest in the car (look at this forum and all the reviews) along with limited supply means that dealers won't budge on pricing. Group buys will fall apart as dealers want to get as much profit on the car when it firsts arrives as they know that once the supply and demand has been stabilized the cars will sell for invoice to MSRP prices. They can only make a large profit the first several months after launch. This will happen in this case due to the reasons mentioned above.
I kind of figured that was what you meant, but the condition you are talking about is going to happen anyway. I was/am extremely skeptical of any dealer who is promising to sell the first cars they get in for a few hundred over invoice. It just doesn't make sense from their standpoint. It is their one chance to really cash in and very few dealers will pass on that opportunity. My point was that there just can't be 1200 cars alotted for the U.S. for the 2013MY. If that # is true then the dealers won't be able to what you are describing either. They will get their 2 cars sometime between may 2012 and august 2013 and they will sell 2 cars and that will be it.

Plus if that # is correct, they aren't going to dump 1200 cars on the market in the spring. it will be fall before some of the dealers even get their first car which would totally contradict what they are telling everyone.

I just can't believe that everyone is getting their panties in a bunch because some dealership made up an almost unbelievable lie in order to get out of selling cars to a small group of people in California.

Wait a sec... I just thought of something. Does anyone know the meaning of these numbers?

does this mean that this car is the 2032nd one produced? When they come over to the us the Numbers reset right? so...If I recall the one shown at DC was 2XXX... so if they reset and that car was number 2000 something then they've produced at least 2K of em for the USA right? that would... mean more than 2 per dealer. A theory... is there a way to tell from the VIN? because if there is... someone in Chicago can still see that BRZ I think

And leeky was told about the LFA not the BRZ or 86 we know they're more than what he's saying back then.

I don't think the dealers really know anything more then the rest of us at this point. They still don't have official pricing. It's highly unlikely they've been given supply estimates at this point.

Either way I have a nice car (Honda CR-Z) that's less then a year old. I want to get the BRZ as soon as I can, but it's not going to kill me to wait.

I agree with you. I don't see that happening either. The owner of the car dealership wants to make money. Lots of it. That means he has a short window to do so with a hot new release like the BRZ. That won't happen with a Forester or a Outback. But will with the BRZ. Selling for pennies over invoice makes no sense if the car will be as hard to get as we think. There are many others interested in the car not even on our forum. So the dealer will sell for MSRP + x and say if you don't like it move along cause someone else probably will. They really only have a small time window to do this until supply catches up or demand decreases.

switchlanez mentioned a rumor above that would suck if true.

I also don't see how 1200 cars would work for Subaru/Toyota. Seems like an idiotic move. But who knows, this whole project has taken longer than I expected, weighs more and probably costs more than I thought. What's to say something else won't surprise me.

I could have sworn that Toyoda himself said that they are going pump out as many of these cars as they can. I think the talk of this "limited supply" is bullshit and dealers are trying to get you to spend more money.
