i have 17x9 et45 on factory bolts and have about the same clearance. im only getting .5 degrees of camber and wanted close to 1.5 in the front. was hoping to add 3mm spacers and max out crash bolts. im glad i read this thread because that would put me at et42 and it didnt fit for the op.

might depend on what tires you have. The 245 rivals look kinda beefy to me.

Buy yeah, get some plates.

I was gonna say the same thing - the rivals might be exacerbating the issue.

So it sounds like if you did want to go 17x9, it's better to go +35 huh?

It seems that way. I'm pretty surprised that places like tirerack even sell 17x9 +45 for this platform.

So I decided to give it a try and have also confirmed that 17x9 et45 245/40 setup will rub with crash bolts even with a 3mm spacer.

However this setup will work with the factory 14mm bolt in place of the larger 16mm oem bolt. It cleared without spacers, but I added 3mm spacers just in case.

I also couldn't find any toyota or subaru dealer that had the oem 14mm shock bolt so I got some grade 8 9/16-20x2.5 bolts, washers and nut from the hardware store. The 9/16 bolt is a hair larger than 14mm but just fit. I'd prefer to get the oem bolt to match but it's a weekend and my alignment appt is Monday. Out here in CA, we don't get much corrosion so I didn't need the coated oem bolt.

Why not use the crash bolts to ad some positive camber back to the setup, to push the wheel away from the strut.(if the only negative camber you have is from lowering springs) Then use camber plates to properly get the camber you want without moving the wheel in. Cheaper then buying coilovers and safer then using wheel spacers.

You should also take into account not every 245/40/17 has the same sidewall shape.

+35 9" wheels will poke quite a bit, especially on stock springs and alignment.
