Replacing mushroom filter for conical?
I’ve had the SBD kit for 3 years and the inside of my intake pipe looks awful. So I want to change this mushroom filter setup for something like a K&N cone filter.
The only post I found on someone doing this with a turbo kit had problems with the rubber melting and tearing where it connects to the intake tube, from the K&N’s rubber not being able to withstand the heat under the hood. He said it “couldn't stand up to the heat and the weight of the filter hanging of the flange without any other support.” Has anyone had better luck replacing their mushroom filter for a cone filter? If so, what size and can you post pics? There’s hardly any room for a cone filter unfortunately and I don’t want to delete my washer fluid bottle cuz this is my DD.

Literally any thing would work.
If the inside of your pipe is horrible, you are neglecting your filter maintenance. If you don't want to spend any time cleaning filters go back to stock, buy any performance drop in filter. You'll have the same power gains.

I don’t neglect filter maintenance, these mushroom filters just suck. They’re good at keeping rocks from hitting the condenser but that’s it. Can’t do a drop-in, I have a front-mount turbo. The stock air box is long gone. So it’s mushroom vs conical.

Conical will work well, but mind the length of the filter. Some are very long and will bump the washer fluid reservoir.

OP, use a K&N RU-3120 filter. I run this on my SBD turbo kit and it works flawlessly. It is a low profile filter so you will be able to clear any oil cooler lines, if equipped.

I have a V1 JDL setup, so my turbo location is fairly close to yours. I have a VTA catch can/PCV delete so I simply put the filter directly onto the compressor inlet. I use an AEM filter, the largest that will possibly fit....pretty much just enough room to be able to remove it for cleaning.
