You have got to remember there is a pretty significant difference in pump E85 blends, they can run anywhere from 51%-85% ethanol. Here is a chart I found and saved a link to a while back on the octane ratings of different blends. The more octane you run, the more timing you can run(albeit with diminishing returns on the upper end). This is why flex fuel and a proper tune can make a big difference. An OTS E85 tune is going to be pretty significantly compromised to stay on the safe side.

Agree - I remember Shiv saying that something like E60 or E65 is all you need to fully optimize timing advance on our cars (i.e. knock resistance), but I believe the tunes are optimized for otherwise stock cars. I had a P&L 4-1 header which *did* actually make a noticable seat-of-the-pants difference on 93, so maybe it's a case if you go from stock/pump to stock/e85 you'll feel a bigger difference with the OTS tunes. I was too cheap to worry about custom tunes st that point

Do you have any data logs with your flex fuel setup? Just want to see how much timing you’re running on the top end under open loop. On my OFT non-flex e85 tune I’m hitting 34-35 degrees timing advance with local e85. I’d be surprised if MBT was beyond that, but your post is making me curious what flex fuel tunes are aiming for.

I solved the cold start issues on mine just this week. In Florida we don't have cold weather long enough to push me to mess with it but this year it's been cold way more often than normal so I finally got around to fixing it. I am able to start right up on the first attempt down to 34F now. Wayne's E86 tune has the cold start fixes built in.

I'm in NC but its always in the garage where I doubt it gets below 40.. I grew up in Jacksonville FL though!
