Skip this intake if that's your concern. Why? If you look at my pic, you'll notice that the intake points straight to the throttle body. For AVO you need one that's points in the same direction as stock.

I am not completely stock, I have a ecutek tune, done by a local tuner called Dynotronics. He is tuning with this intake in mind now. Results are awesome. I am one of those that Data logs within 48 hours of a new rom file, so....I am almost dialed in....

They wanted to do the sound tube thing and I think it was a good idea for people who keep the car stock to get some feedback from the engine (which is probably a lot of folks). So far the intake has been working good, but I cannot really compare it to pre-intake anymore because I just installed a front pipe. Overall though, the throttle response is good. I'm satisfied with the purchase. Any locals want a HKS filter for cheap? hee hee

This is who I bought my CAI from. Its a reputable toyota dealer. Shipping is fast and it comes in the same unopened box the factory ships it to this dealer in. I can definitely say this is a safe and likely the cheapest way to get a TRD CAI.

I still cannot make decision between TRD intake and perrin inlet pipe.
TRD intake looks like can bring more cold air than stock one.
However, the sidewall of perrin inlet pipe looks more smooth than TRD pipe
(the sidewall of the red part looks not smooth) which also good for the cold air flow.
What’s your comment and suggestion?

I haven't got my trd intake yet so I can't comment on that. The reason I bought this perrin inlet tube was to remove the sound generator. Based on the posted dynos the trd makes more power. I hopefully will have a dyno comparing the 2 in a couple weeks.

So all that crap on the left side of the air box goes away... It's almost worth it for that alone. You probably get more gains from less weight than from air flow..
How's the sound? Seems this air box might also be more warranty friendly as viewed by the dealer.. Thanks for the pic..

Afterwards, I let the car idle for 10 minutes without ever touching the gas pedal. On my first drive my initial thought was the throttle response was much better. Prior to this I was running the HKS drop in filter. Car didn't feel like this when I did that install back in October. I'm also running Stage 1 pump gas Visconti tune and the Invidia N1 cat back. Tomorrow I'll be tossing on a front pipe and hopefully I'll be installing a header/overpipe by the end of the month.

Do I recommend this setup? I just got it, hard to say. I'll have to get a few hundred miles on it to see how the computer adapts to the new intake. So far it's promising. We'll see. I'll post up later after I do my work commute.
