Sorry I missed this somehow. I have been noticing the smell, but not nearly as often. I'm gonna talk to Toyota soon and have them look at it to 'find the leak.'

good luck.

My advice would be: better safe then sorry, especially for the folks who google this a few years down the road with even more miles.
Hardware stretches and professionals don't risk this type of failure.
Since you can't measure the bolt before it was installed at the factory (Its called bolt stretch), you play a guessing game. You may want to buy a new bolt for this job.
Also, the manual trans is an easy job, the auto trans cars require the factory or a similar tool solution to lock the flex-plate for install.
On my old Celica it was recommended to upgrade the flywheel bolts when swapping in a lighter unit. Would you recommend the same with the 86/FRS? Does anyone know if ARP make flywheel bolts for the FA20?

WORD ! I am looking forward to doing the flywheel, CF driveshaft............
...along with my 4.55 final drive !

TRD has one that is 12lbs ( flywheel weight).

So thats 10lbs savings from flywheel and 10 lbs savings from driveshaft. 20 lbs rotational HAS GOT to make more power ! I know doing the 4.55 gears FELT LIKE I added at least 15whp.

Any updates from anyone else who has done the flywheel in the last few months? Any dyno results?

I recently found the GFB - Go Fast Bits who have a kit of crank pulley, water pump and alternator pulleys in black aircraft alloy billet... nice work. About to fir it to the car but all up saves massive weight... if anyone wants specifics I will post them..

I have the crank pulley alternator and waterpump pulleys, a carbon driveshaft and the ACT lightweight street clutch and flywheel combo, flywheel is 10.5 lbs so another about 10lbs shaved off my car plus faster reving and hopefully this is the solution to the problem thats causing the crap performance when I launch my car. I am also going to be moving to a upgraded final drive plus headers to hopefully get a good portion of the torque dip removed. I plan on dynoing my car one of these days to see how all the lightweight parts have affected my car.

Sounds like that would be awesome combo. Post back when you have it all finished up!

Turning on the AC also produces more vibration at all RPM range and load condition.
I thought this was pretty normal with a light weight flywheel. I had a LWF on my STi and it would hunt a little bit and drop to lower than normal RPM when you let off throttle abrubtly and clutched.

Yeah once I get it all set in ill post some dyno pics and my impressions of performance gain and daily driving. Either on here or my car build page. Im also going to be hitting up a fresh retune with the newer parts once I purchase the flexfuel tune and fuel lines. Be interesting to see what all the parts pluss E85 does for my car.

Do you have all the parts already? Also can you post a link back in this thread so we can all keep track of your progress?

Thanks!

Plan on getting LWF, just dont know whether ill get the STREETLITE or the PROLITE. Any CELs on these ? read somewhere about the STIs CEL on having a flywheel below 12lbs. Though not the same car, just wondering if someone had CEL issues on prolite flywheels already. Getting GFB also

Nope I can say that I never had a CEL due to any lightweight parts and im running an extremely light drivetrain thats including a lightweight flywheel. I also had a tune pre headers and after installing my headers a while back I still have not gotten a CEL so I dont see any issues arrising from lighter parts but everyones car reacts differently just my personal experience.

I just placed an order for a clutch with a Prolite disc. (And a CF driveshaft) It may be a few weeks before I have it on, however. But there's someone here running one on the street and he said once he got used to it, he isn't having any issues.

Is the carbon drive shaft stronger as well? I assume it would be. Curious how well it would handle additional power. My goal is to eventually sitting at 400-450whp
