Hey @chadstyle, now that you did all that... I might have a way to root the ca-fi knock off and use a USB OBD2 adapter :-p...

it seems to not want to connect when it's connected to my head unit for display. i bet that it would work fine with their hardware though, since it's one of the main apps they advertise for this feature. might fork out for their adapter now that i've got the app.

If you're trying to connect your phone to the head unit and the ELM at the same time its not going to work. You can use a dedicated device for the ELM so your phone is free to connect to the HU.

Someone released an MCU update that allows USB OBD connections as well as full bluetooth connections and, of course, root. I'm going to try hacking it tomorrow. If I can get Torque running, it will be a major win.
I'll have to see if I can extract the Ca-Fi apps from the system update they sent me a while ago hehehe. |

There is no security checks on the MCU update procedure. The problem is that it's rather tedious to test new versions of android out on a head unit, rather than a phone lol. Lot of custom work to interface with the specifics of the head unit.

Can't wait to hear your results...torque on the HU is the number one feature that car enthusiasts will want.

Not from what i've seen so far. it works fine when you're just displaying locally on the iphone, but as soon as you connect the cable to the head unit it loses obd connection and doesn't reconnect. i'll play with it more tomorrow.

I emailed dashcommand and they said it is not possible to input the pid to get oil temperature. With Torque you can input it, to get the temp.
The only app I've found that gives you all the parameters that are actually useful for tracking is OBIE in the apple store. The problem is it requires a PLX Kiwi wifi. The parameters that are already available on OBIE are: oil temp, oil pressure, coolan temp and boost. You can select three gauges at a time, and only displays one gauge at a time, and to get to the other two, you'd have to scroll to the left or right. The data from this app, although not as fancy as Torque or dashcommand, are actually more desirable for performance driving than any other apps I've seen. I'd be very much interested to see if you can actually use the ELM327 to communicate with OBIE. If you can, then the cost is only $5. Plus the $15 for elm. And you don't have to sweat trying to input pid to get what you want. Here's the web page on it. Let me know if elm is a possibility with this app; http://www.theappleseedstore.com/Welcome.html

Torque seems to be THE one that will let you manually enter the PID for oil temp but is only android as you all know. Also did not find a way to add it to the OBIE gauges using the kiwi2 plx. Someone else may be able to but oil temp would not work automatically. Again, like the others I think it uses the standard PID for oil temp and not the 86/BRZ unique one. I have tried most and find the HKS OB-Link with carscope app on android to be the best so far. Seems accurate and pretty fail safe and shows oil temp of the 86 with no changes once you select Toyota 2 (I think) for car type. Expensive though! The elm327 with torque is much cheaper. .
