New to the forum but let me get this straight, everyone hype the crap out of this car but throw a fit when it gets popular?

I guess everyone owns a Mac as well.

Oh noes, increased demand for affordable sport coupes? (the indicator that Toyota and I'm sure other companies are watching for their future sport car development and offerings)

Dang I guess my awesome and exclusive car is just awesome now and I have nothing to look forward to but more more affordable sport coupes in the future. Drat

There is a difference between a car being popular and a car having a certain stigma attached to it. Certain cars carry a certain negative stigma that is difficult to overcome. It may not matter that the stereotype or stigma of a car is true, but it will destroy certain vehicles. This is part of the reason why you never see Hummers around.

Jetta = hot chick car
PT Cruiser = middle-aged female
Hummer = guy compensating
Lifted truck = guy really compensating
Mini Cooper = women in their 30s trying to be a cool and still be in their 20s
Scion = kid car
Subaru = lesbian car
Camaro = redneck
Mustang = redneck
BMW = douchebag
Audi = driven by cocks
Buick = grandparents car
Luxury SUV = stay at home soccer mom
SUV = soccer mom
Civic = fast and furious wannabe
Corolla/Camry = appliance car
Boxster = chick car
Cayman = someone who couldn't afford a 911
old truck = hick
windowless van = pedofile

and the list goes on and on

lol... did he just say "DRAT"... havent heard that word since I was a kid.

Like everyone else said, just have to customize and put your own twist on it. You drive down the street and see a million civics, accords, maxima's, altima's.... more of us is never a bad thing, just makes the car clubs bigger! But just like the AE86, you cant find any on autotrader now... at least I couldn't in a 500mi radius... 20 years from now, I hope my FRS looks just as good as it does today. And is worth half what I paid for it. Either way, I LOVE MY FREAKING CAR... exclusive or not.

Still, anything is better than the exclusive snob that is radiating from this thread right now.

I would rather be viewed as "The guy that bought FRS because of Fast 6" over "The guy that wears black turtleneck and say 'It's a FRS/BRZ, you probably never heard of it".

Ditto OuHiroshi. Do you like the car? Then drive it. End of story.

It's like hipsters that get angry when their favorite artist makes it big. Oh so you like your favorite artist so much that you want them never to make any money from talent so that you can keep them all to yourself? Gee, how thoughtful of you.

The more of these that sell, the more likely Toyota will keep developing them, the more likely other manufacturers will create cars to compete with it, the better the cars will be come. That is good for us enthusiasts. It also means better aftermarket.

I get where people are coming from. I sort of feel like the new Mustang is a "Me too" car ("What do you drive?" "Oh I've got a Mustang GT" "Me too!") and it's not something I really like about it. But if I thought the Mustang was the car for me I wouldn't give that a second thought. It just really doesn't matter.

But if it's a fixed gear then you would be labeled as a hipster.

Wow, so you're not buying it because of its balanced FR dynamics, chassis rigidity, driver engagement?

Mass market appeal is what creates thriving aftermarket support for the car. And it's what will help other automakers to come out with their own RWD cars, like Nissan who wrongly thought consumers no longer cared for RWD coupes (and ditching the Silvia).
