Yeah that's some tall rubber. Just put some 1" spacers on the top hats and make it a rally car!

Did you get new tires for the rear yet? I'm like you, all the pictures I see on 9.5's...255 is too much of a stretch for my taste.

there are a few 18x9.5 +38 floating around on the forums. 4mm difference in poke isn't gonna make too much difference. less than 1/6th of an inch, but the front will poke a bit. rear should be fine

Found these for my stock tires: http://www.fastwheels.ca/component/p...art/Itemid,62/

I was thinking of getting the 17x7.0 since that's the perfect fit for our tires. But how can I judge what offset will fit? I know that if you don't get a high enough offset, your wheels may not clear your brakes (or something like that). Would a +35 offset be safe enough?

New wheels!!

I am about to order new wheels for my FR-S. I am going with one of the Five Axis models. Either the R5-F or the R7-F. These come in 19's only. I could also get the S5-F which comes in either 18 or 19. Is there an advantage to either size? I am new to the whole aftermarket wheel scene so I am just tying to make a good choice between these. Thanks in advance.

JC

17x7 or 17x8 will be no big deal for the stock tires. The stock wheels are +48mm offset, so using +35 means the wheels is pushed outwards 13mm. You should have no issues with either 7" or 8" widths. If you go 8" wide, you aren't stuck getting new skinny tires when the stockers wear out.

Oh? I thought a smaller positive offset meant the center was deeper. Did I have that backwards?

Edit: I'm guessing if I want a more concave look, I should go with +42 offset? Will that clear?

That's sort of correct. The center really stays where it is (the hub) and the rest of the wheel goes outward with lower offset.

Offset is just the distance between the mounting face of the wheel and the imaginary centerline of the width. So yes, a lower offset pushes the mounting face closer to the centerline. But when mounted on the car, it means the outside wheel lip will be sticking out farther than a higher offset.

Spoke design will play a part in brake clearance as well. Some wheels are made differently for different offsets (lower offset looks more concave) while others just have a thicker or thinner mounting pad and the spokes stay the same.

19's r heavyer, tires might cost a good amount more for being low profile, & depending on the thickness ur mpgs gonna drop. Either way, its.gonna drop just cuz its heavyer alone.

Thanks for the response. I drive mostly on the interstate so milage might not drop to much. I get about 34 mpg now. Weight isn't to big a deal for me as I don't drive very aggressively at all. I know it will have some effect though but will it be that noticeable with just everyday driving?

Bigger wheels are obviously heavier. Heavier objects are harder to rotate which means reduced throttle response, and also it is a more burden to brakes. Also I think you lose some of the agility of this car.

I know it is just a marketing scheme but according to Enkei website; "Every pound of unsprung weight savings has the effect of reducing overall vehicle weight by 20lbs."
(And by the way, I didn't buy Enkei wheels so I am not trying to sell anything)

Plus this is just my personal opinion but 19s look too big for this car.

As far as just normal driving I dont think its have too much of an effect. Might make u feelba bit more slugish since its +2" bigger a diameter. Idk

Would the 18's be better? The S5-F comes in a 18.
