I presume it still makes an audible difference with an aftermarket intake?

I've got an aftermarket intake and exhaust that generate their own sounds but the sound tube generates another audible roar on top of all that. I know it does because when I disconnected the sound duct and plugged the hole in the firewall, that roar went missing.

Sure, if you let me know what measurements you're actually interessted in?
Otherwise, it really just takes 10 Minutes to unistall/reinstall the stock sound tube, so if you wanna make a copy of it it may be easier to use the stock one as reference.

Depends a bit where you buy it. I ordered mine over ebay directly from japan, had them 3 days later in my mail, but payed about 110 usd.

some others in this forum mentioned some local dealer that could organize them for about 60 usd.

Ouch talk about a pricey/Ricey mod!

This mod is just to "enhance" the drivers experience by making the cabin louder.
But I would much rather spend that $65-110 dollars on aintake that normally will make your car sound louder plus there are some performance gains. I think I will go to the sound generator delete dyi route.

thats ok when you live in a country that this is street legal. Over here, we either cant buy an aftermarked intake for under 350USD minimum, nor drive it street legal. The fine if police catches you with an modified intake the first time is at least 300 USD, secound time it will be around 1000 USD etc.

Thanks for this @Killerbee

It's a bit trickier to install in our RHD cars as is on the other side (away from the battery) and has more "stuff" in the way.

So, for those with RHD cars (UK, Australia, New Zealand etc) here's a DIY written by @Nafe

Link is here http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...6&postcount=32

You will need a pair of pliers, a rachet and 12mm socket.
1. First removed the right hand (drivers side) strut bar but removing the 3x12mm nuts and 1x 12mm bolt.
2. you need to access the first joint in the sound generator system, after the generator itself. refer diagrams. The pliers are required to move the clip out of the way, and then pull the hose off as gently as you can, as not to damage anything.
It is in the highlighted area, but just out of vision:

Here is a close up, the first pic ws to show you the area to look
Move the clip that the arrow points at.

Removing this join makes the rest easier. This isn' the part you replace with the TRD part.
3. The fiddly part is coming up now. The hose/sound tube now enter the cabin through the firewall. It is quite literally underneath the steering column. It is impossible to really see, so just follow the hose with your fingers. The picture below highlights the area it is in. After removal, feel for the grommet in the firewall. This is only to help you get a better idea of where it is, do not remove the grommet.

4. Now remove the grey sound tube from the hose. Take not as to how it is fitted, as you will need to fit the TRD part the same way. Don't fret, there is a mark on the hose you can line up with the casting seam of the TRD part. I apologise, I haven't got pics of this as I didn't take any while doing it. Kit is quite straight forward, however the sound tube is a bit of a pain to remove :P
5. Feel around again for the grommet to locate it, and refit the tube as close to the original position as possible. You can twist it a little once fitted to line up if required. This was the trickiest bit as you can't see shit!!
6. reassemble other components in reverse order.
7. go for a drive and bask in the awesome cabin noise!!

Hope this is helpful dude
Thanks Nafe!
