I always use Oetiker stepless clamps even on clamp less hoses. Thats the best clamp to use in a majority of issues and is certainly the correct clamp for your situation. I have some I can send you if you can tell me the size of the line. However its Perrins part so let me know if they get you squared away or not.

I have never had an aeroquip style hose pop on me, very surprising.

Usually they dont especially if you are using hoses and adapters from the same manufator so that the tolerances are all within spec. But something is deff not right here. They are designed to stay on without a clamp when maintaining the psi rating.

clamps ordered overnite- not many speed shops by me in sedona
went thru a gallon of degreaser but the entire inside of the bumper cover is coated..thats gonna have to come back off to get cleaned..

smells like...oil!

indeed, this tells us to make it AZ proof, they need to include clamps. I assembled it off the car, let them sit tin the sun till hot, smeared a hint of oil on the barb, and slid it on

they should not have come off, they are aeroquip branded hose

It was a MAJOR bummer that you didnt get to come with since the fitting decided to let loose all of your oil. We were all praying over lunch for the health of your engine.

Has there been any word yet on the est. cost of these units when they're production ready? And is there going to be any production-quality adapter/fix for airaid intakes, or larger aftermarket intakes that block the feeder lines?

Very interested in getting a reasonably priced, quality oil cooler!

Gem,
I sent you this in an email as well, but I want to make sure we get you taken care of ASAP so sorry for the repeat.

WOW, that is no good at all! I have used those push connect fittings about 5 times on cars (not to mention hundreds of people do) and NEVER used clamps and NEVER had an issue with them. And my BRZ is still working perfect with no hose failures.

Can you tell me if the hose was pushed all the way up to where it hits the small free spinning collar? Did the hose blow off or did it just leak a bit? How easy did the hoses go on? Also which end did it blow off on?

Yes Oetiker clamps will help fix that problem, but it shouldnt' have happened to start with. The hoses and fittings are not designed to use those. I didn't put instructions in the box but maybe we should have regarding these fittings. Please keep in mind you are a tester and we normally would have included instructions. Also final kits will have hoses assembled by us so this doesn't happen.

Please let us know ASAP about this so we can get you taken care of ASAP! In the mean time, push the hose all the way back on and use a clamp until we can figure this out.

Again, sorry this happened on the weekend when we were not around to help!

Jeff thats why I am testing it I guess, for everyone elses benefit. Clamps will need to be included and that should be accounted for in pricing of the kit. I dont think they need to be actual oetick, a screw drive worm clamp with a smooth band should work fine according to Mocal

Yes,the hose was bottommed out on the black washer. This isnt the 1st oil cooler I have put in either, so I was a bit surprised with the clampless design. I warmed it up and drove it fine.

It popped when I didnt warm up the car and drove it so I am betting there was higher pressure with colder oil, I dunno, but adding some cheap clamps from ace hardware seems to make it bullet proof.

I have redlined it repeatedly since, and no issues, so all it needs is clamps, I added clamps to every portion of the system I could. The cooler works, the oil temps, according to my infra red gun, ar staying well below what it was before, where I could get the oil to 203F easy. Now after a hard run, I got 195F.

I climb the hills here in sedona for our testing, that means redlined pulls thru each gear, running it HARD, atleast the 1st 4 gears. Repeat. Hot sun, not a could to be seen for miles.

.. so there is plenty of option to get oil hot here, its over a hundred degrees and I drive like I just stole it. I'm admittedly quite abusive.

I'm, sure at higher speeds it can be more efficient, my testing was mostly on public roadways. I think the Mocal folks across the pond build a nice cooler, and aside from the hose barb issue I am impressed.

I have the correct smooth type clamps on order. I would have no issue if I just used the clamps.

This thread is full of win and that's the post I've been waiting for.

So in AZ (my former romping grounds), you were only seeing 203F? That seems like it's below the factory intended operating temperature (usually 212F right?). I was expecting the demand for an oil cooler came out necessity of people recording oil temps greater than 260F when driven hard or in AZ like climates.

At 203F in the hot AZ weather, I can't see a need for the oil cooler. Fill me in the details I'm missing. In the past were you seeing much higher temps than this?

Also, it's nice that the oil cooler has a thermostat but at what temperature is that Thermostat designed to open? 200F? 220F?

Does anyone know if Perrin (or someone else) is working on a AT trans cooler?

I'd like to buy this oil cooler but i'd like to make sure both an AT trans cooler and the oil cooler play nice together.

I had slip on line for my coolant lines on my STi and that never happened. Very weird.
