I'm currently springless and dislike the looseness of the clutch when let off at top, I ended up bringing the cruise control sensor down a bit until it held the clutch steady. The sensor itself works fine still. But the clutch master seals wearing does sound scary.

EDIT: holy crap, $27 for the spring!? :/

Has anyone else used this clutch spring? I removed my stock spring last week and like the feel. But it's a little much sitting in rush hour traffic 5 days a week. I thought this spring might be a good balance between the stock spring and no spring at all.

Despite having driven manual transmission vehicles for over 20 years, my 2016 BRZ will at times make me look like a stickshift newbie. It's a little strange, sometimes I'm on point and am clicking off flawless shifts; other times I'm lurching like a 16 year old.

I attributed this to a few factors:

* lack of clutch feel
* lazy throttle (as compared to my old throttle-cabled NB miata)
* unintuitively high clutch engagement
* myself

I installed the mtec spring this past weekend (first mod) and have driven with it enough to make some statements on it.

Install:

Getting the stock spring out took some doing and is a bit awkward, but it eventually came out. Getting the mtec spring back in was much easier.

Weight:

Clutch effort will be higher. You'll notice it most on your first test drive. After a few days, I've completely adjusted to it. It now feels totally normal to me. I don't find it to be tiring, even in stop & go traffic.

Feel:

Clutch feel is notably improved. Shifting my BRZ is now easier, and I don't look like a newb nearly so much as I used to. But, this is not a cure-all. I still fall into a poor shifting bout from time to time, usually when trying to drive sedately.

Conclusion:

This is worthwhile if you find your BRZ to be lacking in clutch feel, and don't want any slop from a springless system. I'd do it again.

Just installed the MTEC clutch spring on my 2017 86. I used a tiny flat head to pop the c-clip out, and a large flat head for the rest. Install was fairly straight forward with the included zipties. Took me just 15 minutes from start to finish.

For my impressions, to start lets just say I had the same complaints as everyone else. Car made me feel like a novice at manual (mainly at low speeds, would get some jerks as I would think the clutch was disengaged when it wasnt). Especially evident when switching back and forth between a miata which is one of the easiest manual cars I have ever driven. The spring definitely helps with feeling the engagement, and is much better for slower speeds. The engagement still isnt as smooth as my miata, but it is heaps better than it was.

Without trying "no spring" to compare, its hard to say if this would be a huge improvement over that for the price. But I did notice very minimum deadplay with the mtec spring which seems to be one of the main complaints of the spring removed. I would say give no spring a shot, and if you can't live with the deadplay, this is a better alternative then adjusting the clutch switch (which could have detrimental effects if you adjust it to far out and get slight drag on the clutch without realizing)

Thank you all for the reviews on this. Between these and my coworker I put this in last night and this is the feel that I've been missing the fast few years I've had BRZ's. I really thought they'd fix it with the '17 but it was still just as bad. You can tell exactly where the engagement point is now instead of dealing with an overcompressed spring simulating the same feel as the engagement point. Seriously, get it. $30 is definitely overpriced but well worth the investment nonetheless

In your opinion, is it effective to cover the same stock spring with two zippers without removing it or not?

I just posted in another thread about how GKTech released some GT86 stuff, but they also have MUCH more reasonably priced springs for the Clutch and Shifter:

I did this mod a while back combined with adjusting the clutch petal so its sits slightly lower for better foot placement. I also did the mtec shift springs, weighted shift knob, and a poly rear shifter bushing. Overall, the combo makes it a much better experience than stock. I can actually feel the engagement and the knob is much better getting into gear and out of gear.

I've seen that some have also replaced the clutch slave cylinder with one from an imprezda or wrx for a shorter throw, but it makes the petal even heavier. I don't think it would be ideal for daily with the mtec clutch spring or no spring in combo with a higher torque rated clutch disk.

I found this information in another post and I bought some on Aliexpress 🤣

largo 50.8mm 2in
comprimido 20.82mm 0.82in
ancho 24.63mm 0.97in
interior 19.3mm 0.76in
hilo 2.66mm 0.105in

I bought the MTEC of the transmission, but I did not want to spend the ridiculous shipping costs and tariffs for one for the clutch.
