MTEC clutch spring review
 

Follow-up to my post here... turns out what I was looking for was already being sold by MTEC - a replacement clutch spring. Didn't see much reviews for it but it wasn't expensive, so what the hell.

They are the same free length but the compression rates are different - I can compress the MTEC spring with my hands but it's a lot more difficult on the stock spring. Install was easy, I followed MTEC's guide here.

Impressions:
Basically what you would expect - it's a compromise between stock and complete spring removal. Provides a bit more weight than stock but not as much as complete removal. It also eliminates the free-play as shown in my poorly animated gifs:

Verdict:
If I were to do it again, I'd just leave it springless. Like others have said, pedal free-play is a non-issue and while I had the spring out I quickly got used to it. That being said, the clutch feel is still pretty good, better than stock. So I'll leave it in for now, I'm pretty adaptable.
This would also benefit those who don't like the stock light clutch feel but are often in stop-and-go traffic, and/or have chicken legs. Don't skip leg day, bros.

Update 05/12/2015:
After driving with the MTEC spring for a couple of weeks, I'm happy with the pedal feel and don't think my clutch requires any further adjustment. Very worthwhile mod.
My current settings:
- MTEC clutch spring
- clutch height adjustment to 5mm above brake pedal (I think.. will double check)
- stock slave cylinder

I've had my spring removed for about a year and was wondering about this as well. If it pops up cheap on a group buy, I'll buy it.

How was the install? Trying to get the stock spring back in was essentially impossible.

Awesome, finally someone bought it.

I saw this floating around and wasn't sure how well it performed. I removed the spring entirely at first, however there were times when the pedal wouldn't come back all the way.

Use zip-ties, I made a post about putting the stock spring back in. MTEC instructions even advise to use zip-ties.

It was dead easy, zip tied the springs, pushed the clutch pedal down, pushed the rod assembly in and guided it onto the clutch assembly. Then released the clutch pedal and the whole thing popped into place. It helps that the MTEC spring has a lower compression rate than the stock spring.

MTEC also gracefully provides you with two zip-ties to use.

@kbye, Thanks for the review. I love the feel of the spring removed, but I hate the slop at the top of the pedal stroke. Too bad the spring isn't just strong enough to remove the slop, yet not change the great spring-less pedal feel.

Thank you for the review kbye. One thing I do want to explain is that removing the spring can damage you clutch master over time. I've tested and noticed increased wear on the inner seals.

Bought this because of this review. Installed it today and what a great product! Before this I was making myself nauseous with my shifting.

I did this mod recently as well in pair with the MTEC shift springs. Use needle nose pliers to get the c-clip on/off and make your life a lot easier. It does feel alot better than stock. In my opinion the best way to describe the clutch feel would be "smoother" and more controlled returning back to the resting position. It's not an issue for me in traffic.

first i removed spring only...it had a lot of clutch pedal play up top...with the mtec spring now, it didn't eliminate the clutch pedal loose play of the no spring and pedal is smoother. don't feel much clutch engagement...well a little... will use it as it is and adjust pedal...
