hamish.frs: just a guess, in case if there is chance for problem to be like i had. It seemed to me randomly .. but there actually was system behind & reason for "random" lockouts of gears for me. Issue was reverse lockout adjustment plate, worn or misadjusted. Most of a time it allowed to switch gears just fine, but sometimes locked out. Took some time to notice exactly when that happens - when i tried to press gear lever more to left, to get into 1st & 2nd. Obviously, whenever i triggered, i often tried to press even stronger, to get in 1st or 2nd "for sure". When i guided it to left lightly, gears switched just fine. You can try same way to test that intentionally, if you can easily put in gear w/o strong press left, or cannot get in gear if press strong. If result same, most probably culprit same. But now you should know workaround for driving w/o locked out gear until you get time for shop/dealership visit, and ask for shop for fixing exact thing, align better reverse lockout plate.

I've had some similar issues with my gear select getting stuck in reverse but with some persuasion it will go back to neutral. I also have issues going into any of the gears but not all the time it's kind of random like you said. If I give the shifter a little wiggle left and right it will line up and go into gear properly. The reverse lockout only makes the 1st and 2nd shift difficult if not setup properly it shouldn't affect my shifts into 3rd or other gears. I recently had an issue with my carrier pin went missing so I replaced the front shifter carrier bushings with the torque solution ones and the missing pin. I also installed the torque solution rear shifter bushing as well while I was in there and the torque solution short shifter as well. Figured while I had everything apart for the front carrier pin why not upgrade some things. I still have this issue after doing all those bushings.

If in all gears, most common culprit is slight clutch drag.

Thanks yeah that sounds like my issue since letting off the clutch and pushing it again usually solves the problem I didn't even think about clutch drag.

Hamish. You replaced the clutch disk and pressure plate and have the same issue? I'm dealing with the same problem and have an act with lightweight flywheel. Do you have any vibrating issues with your transmission in neutral or once in gear? My shop is suggesting my transmission is the issue but I'm not convinced because when I'm stuck in gear the car is idling forward with the clutch pedal on the floor

Google "ACT clutch issues".

I had the same issues and tryed everything... I ended up buying a used transmission and had the gears cryogenic treatment and wpc treatment also used carbon fiber syncros that has solved everything I know most people don't want to put alot of money into this transmission but i really like this trany and with my clutch kit and treatment im in it about 2500 with my labor being free but I can say its perfect now and should hold more power im 280whp now and every shift is smooth as a highend german gear box now the carbon syncros are the biggest help thats what actually helps you get into gear

beat me to it. ACT Clutches are known to do this. I have personally been dealing with it for about 20k miles.
