If you want a certain look, then got for it. They will work. A larger diameter tire will fill up the wheel well more than a smaller diameter tire. IMO, the ride will be very close to the same on all the tires; shocks/springs have more to do with ride quality. Added weight will slow you down and increase braking distance. Though I don't know exactly how much; probably only a little.. They say one pound of wheel/tire weight removed is as good as removing 10lbs off the car body. Good luck!

18x9.5 on stock suspension
Hi, so I have stock suspension on my 2013 frs, and I'm looking to get some 18x9.5s on the car. Currently, I'm looking at the avid-1 av20s (+38, 5x100, 73.1) with some tires that are 255/40R18 W or 255/35R18 W. Will any of these fit?

First of all..... Welcome to the forum! I think you will rub in the front with a 255 tire. The front's clearance between the wheel and spring perch is the issue. A 17x9 +45 is what I consider the inner tolerance, and the 18x9.5 +38 is only 0.7mm farther away from the spring perch. A 255/40 is too big in diameter. I would get narrower tires like 235/40 or 245/35/18 tires and some 3mm slip spacers. You will not be able to add camber, there is no room without a spacer. (or coilovers) The thicker the spacer you add up front, the more inner clearance you will have to add camber, but this adds poke at the same time. Read post Read post 213, 214, & 219. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...=28017&page=16 Stock diameter 24.6" 255/40/18 diameter 26.0" Good luck! __________________

quick question.
this is about offset. I saw these are approved on Tirerack for the BRZ with PP 18x8 will be running 225/40 Have the offset of 42 45 48 I did the calculators and seems like 42 are even (inside) to the stock and most pushed out. the others seems like less flush and more pushed inside. would you recommend the 42 as the better fit? I don't want them to stick out but closer to flush would be better. Note I have a tS but Tirerack has not tested anything on a tS but does say these will fit on the BRZ PP Tirerack does have some with smaller positive offset such as 40 or 38 but those are heavier and I was looking at the three mentioned first with the weight in mind. thanks Last edited by Rai-zero; 11-02-2018 at 10:33 PM. |

It depends on what you want. I had 225/40 on 18x8 +45 with a +25 spacer. This makes them 18x8 +20. I was lowered 1" with a set of camber bolts in the front. IMO, They were flush and looked awesome. I'm currently running 18x9 +30 front. Compared to a 18x8 +42, my setup pokes 25mm more. Those offsets are not flush. You could always add a 25mm spacer and get any of the three offsets. (depending on how aggressive you want to look, and the other suspension mods you are planning) If you do not want spacers, get the +42.

It should not rub if he is gonna be getting coilovers. Also, see if he can get 245/35 size tires as they are pretty similar to stock specs.

wheel poll
Question, I am going to change my quite new wheels for a set of 18X8" TSW but I can't choose which one, I am between two designs, the forged Nurburgring and the Mallory 5.
I don't want my car only for the looks, if something doesn't serve it's purpose I'd change it for something better performance wise, thus, a lighter wheel is always welcome. The Mallories are 43lbs with the Pilot supersports 215/40/18 I have while Nurburgrings are 39lbs and slightly lighter combo even from the oem 17" wheels/tires. My mind says Nurburgrings 18X8 +45 but my heart leans to Mallories 18X8 +35...and finally if I choose the Nurburgrings what offset 35 or 45? |

As for the weight difference compared to looks. The difference is small enough, you won't notice it for DD. So if the Mallory makes you happier to look at, then it may be the choice. But, if weight is the main factor; why not get 17x8 Nurburgrings? Either way, 17 or 18 Nurburgrings are nice wheels. I went with a wheel: I wanted to look at, in my price range, that was also as light as possible. My 18x9 with 245/35 weighs 43lbs. Great choice on tire size! They will look awesome on 18x8s!

The Nurburgring looks just like that. The 18x8 Mallory will look less concave. It's weird that TSW does not list two different face types. But after looking at the specs available, and pics on google, I'm 100% sure the concaveness will look like this...

If all you do is worry about the "lost" performance from 10mm of offset and a few extra pounds; then get lighter weight wheels. (like 17" Nurburgrings) IMO, Both wheels will feel the same, especially with the same tire. It's your car, do what makes you happy.
