2017 MT 860 with 7k kms.
Use 94 10% ethanol with spirited driving and no crickets yet. Fingers crossed for future but accept it if it's meant to be.

So, with possibly getting the fuel pump replaced under warranty ( with in 5 yrs of new) , does this guarantee the cricket noise to go away ?

Have you had it when it was hot outside for a few days in a row yet? The fuel used is only part of the equation. Many crickets hibernate for the winter.

Octane level has nothing to do with it.

Got it in May last year so it was still warm after break in and was able to get some good moutain drives in. Had a few heat waves that lasted a couple weeks long at 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit)

You should be good to go then. Mine only did it when it got hot out but even that seems to have ended. The chirps that is not the hot out part.

I started running Petro 94 and the crickets started after one tank. Good luck. I'm at 20k

Let it idle, open your windows and door, park close to a wall or structure that can bounce sound and I bet you will hear them.

eh how hot does it really get up there? it probably does depend entirely on temp. I've had no crickets since about October of last year and they came back about a few weeks ago when temps were coming back to 100+

I park in a small enclosed spot (2 feet to each wall) and usually dont move it until its at operating temperature or close to it. Havent noticed any crickets yet and I have tried really hard to listen for them. Will keep a open ear and update if they migrate to under my Hood

We can breach 30 degrees Celsius, which is 86 Fahrenheit... hehe.. but lately it has been 22c/71f. It's yet to get truly hot from what is normal here.

not to derail the thread, but it isn't part of the stick itself that causes the rattle. I've read thread after thread of people trying to diagnose this with some people trying to put insulation inside or swapping the whole stick out for a brand new one but no one has seemed to figure it out. I personally only seem to get the rattle in 2nd gear above 5 K RPMs and it only seems to happen after I've shifted hard & fast into 2nd. If I take the shift slower it doesn't seem to rattle so I'm assuming it has something to do with the actual mechanics inside the trans that causes some vibration to go through the stick.

91 in the S7

94 in the FRS. Never had crickets since the beginning of ownership. I treat my FRS better than my S7.

94 at the chevrons here contain no enthanol

For my specific issue, there is no difference between shift approach in the volume, intensity and frequency of the rattle sound. It is rather consistent and can be recreated at will easily within 2nd, 4th and 6th. Minor vibration I could care less about, much like crickets, but an actual sound that increases with my acceleration, that is alarming.

My reason for checking under the trim was more so a, what if it's something simple, which it more than likely isn't going to turn out to be.

Spoke with a Toyota Tech (the guy who's already been working with my car for the existing issue), and it seems like he's lumping the issue into the transmission, although he needs to hear it for himself, which won't be until 24k (I'm at 20k), so any suspected cause is for now, a guess.
