Got the crickets. Any other 17 MT's?
 

Seems to be intermittent so far. This is the first tank of E85 this year, so maybe I can attribute the crickets to that. It has always had just a hint of the noise every now and then, but it is obvious now.

Should I take it to the dealer and burn it in the lot as protest? Should I see how many pumps I can get the dealer to replace? Add a quart of engine oil to the gas?*

*The above paragraph is a joke.

Any other 17 MT's you know of with crickets? I don't remember reading about any here.

It didn't seem to make a difference in the year of the car. The 13s were chirping as much as the 17s in the poll. I'm convinced it's all in the type of fuel used. I've run nothing but Chevron 93 in mine since the pump was replaced with the last TSB and still no crickets.

Mine started chirping within 3-5K km. Doesn't bother me though

'17 AT BRZ with crickets here. I've only ever run 91 Shell or Chevron in it, first noticed the crickets when I had been on Shell for a while but I'm now starting into my 3rd tank of Chevron in a row since noticing them and the crickets are still going strong.

I noticed a little bit on shell 91. switched to petro 94/stinson 93 and no issues since.

I don't remember when my '13 got infested, but it's nice to know they still have not fixed the problem.

Chevron 92 for me as well, just switched to E85, loud crickets. Maybe they enjoy the corn 'licker and are having a party.

I haven't had crickets at all since I moved to Florida, so I'm even more convinced than ever that the crickets are caused by the fuel blend (winter/summer) and the additive packages. Since it's warm here throughout the year, our blends don't get as much butane as in colder climates.

When I lived in Texas and Louisiana, I'd get crickets on winter blends and on cheap gas from Sam's Club or Marathon stations. Sam's gas was the worst. I thought the fuel pump was going to jump out of the damned car and go hopping down the street on its own.

And before anybody says it, I'm almost certain that non-ethanol gas won't fix it. I tried it when it was the big bandwagon fix, and it made my crickets worse. I'm pretty sure it was because it was just shitty gas from mom and pop stations that was either cut down with a lot of octane substitutes or had really bad additive packages.

17 86 Auto only have used non ethanol 91 with 4400 miles and no crickets still.

That's interesting. I'm in Florida and have never had crickets. I only use whatever 93 octane is cheapest. Usually Sunoco or Cumberland Farms. Neither of which are "top tier" fuels. So maybe it's the additives that cause it.

Either 91 no ethanol or 94 ~10%. No crickets.

Also did ~3000 miles with the redesigned pump on the FR-S and the crickets never showed.

I add 2oz of 2 cycle engine oil if I start to hear the crickets. This seems to solve the problem for at least a couple of tanks of fuel. I read to do that somewhere else on this forum a while ago, though I'm not sure which post. But I've been doing that and have no problems. I pick up this stuff from walmart:

I have heard them on and off on my 15 since new. Never bothered me, especially when the 100k Audi next to me at the light is doing the same thing.
