Summer Performance Tire Recommendation
What is your recommendation for a Daily/Spirited Driving/Light Track Use tires? And if you could please give some feedback if possible.
Currently on my purchase list is: Hancook Ventus V12 Evo 2 Firestone Indy 500 I'm aware that there is a new version of MPSS but its too pricey for me. |

I would avoid the Firestone Indy 500, I wasn't happy with them at all, they seemed to have a very soft and squishy sidewall.

I love my Hankooks. They are great for daily driving. For autocross, I would be mad if I had something a with a little more grip, but its a really good multi-functional tire.

My tire guy swears by the MPSS, so I'll have them fitted soon. What is this new version of MPSS you're talking about?

The outgoing PSS is on sale and will be up until the PS4S replaces it. You'd spend about $100 more but you'd get at least that much more out of them performance wise. I like the Indy 500 more than the hankook's, I've run both on my rears. The Indy's have noticeably more grip, I do like running them 1-2psi high though, no more sidewall issues really and they're still grippier. Sidewall can always be compensated by pressure, and the hankook's also have a softer sidewall than the PSS', which are the king.
FYI Falken's new extreme performance summer tire (Azenis K+) is currently on rebate so you can get four really fast tires for about $340 right now, if outright speed is your game. The tire it replaced was a good performance tire overall for sure A lot cheaper than RE71R's, but even with Falken's new compound choice they'll probably still be a tad slower.

Also you get the fancy velvet sidewall off of the Cup 2's so there's that too lol

Tirerack has reviewed both tires. They are in different performance categories though. I had the previous version of the hankook tires and didn't care for them... The firestones are supposedly very similar to bridgestone re003 tires found in Japan.

Consider the new Continental ExtremeContact Sport that just came out recently. It's supposed to be pretty much identical to MPSS performance, but at a lower price and more comfortable. I'm replacing my MPSS' with them soon.

Sumitomo HTR Z III cheaper and alittle better in some aspects. I had them and they are great tires. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compa...rveyTires=true

They last just about as long as super sports, maybe longer, issue is that I stagger PSS on the fronts and Indy 500's on the rears because they're less expensive so I don't feel so bad about burning them away every now and then
![]() I'd estimate that if, properly rotated, they'd last a bit longer than the supersports but MPSS' are also known for longevity... And GRIPPPP. If you're looking for the the best tire the MPSS is your best bet, but if saving $100 and having a bit longer tire life is your game then the Indy 500's (or the hankook's) wouldn't be bad choices. The rival s mentioned is a great tire, my friend runs it on his STX RX8, but they wear pretty fast (200tw AutoX all-out-speed tire) like the Falken's and Re71r's... So probably not a good choice unless you're interested in AutoX a lot, and spending a lot on tires lol.
