I have always been skeptical about just tightening the nut. The splines between the axle and hub are designed to meet with a tight slip fit. They must be worn if the two are able to rotate relative to each other.

They told me that it is fine to drive for another half year or even a year or so, but the loose nut will eventually cause bigger problem for later, axle, cv joint, etc. They couldn't tighten the nut, otherwise they will break it. So they suggest it is better to replace the whole thing.
It is a good experience, so I know what is going on later and knowing that it is part of the warranty. =]

That is the sort of thing I would tighten once and if it fixed it great. If it came back it would be time to take further steps.
