With the stock Toyota GL-3 gearbox oil, shifting is never really smooth regardless of mileage.

To really test if there's an issue with 1-2 shift, take it upto redline. If there's a problem you won't be able to get it into 2nd gear.

Keep looking. Hope a better condition car comes your way.

Oh .. ??

My 2013 FR-S, with the original transmission oil, shifts quite smoothly, even when it's cold.

And yes, for comparison, I have many shifts, from many vehicles, under my old suspenders .....

Could be a climate issue or just a difference of opinion.

Could be the climate ....... where is "The 6" ...??

Up here in Washington we have the ideal climate for transmission oil ..... rarely gets very hot, rarely gets very cold.......transmissions love it .....

As far as opinion, I have only shifted one other MT that was smoother ....my 2006 Miata (5 speed). I hear tell that the S2000 has an even smoother shifting transmission.......

Toronto. About two hours north of me. I have no issues with the stock oil.

On the think of it I've only had the stock oil during the Winter and subsequent Spring months after purchasing this car in late October '14. Once I switched to Eneos Gear Oil at 10000km the shifting instantly got quite a bit more smooth. Changed the oil again with Eneos at 25000km and same good result.

I know a guy that resides in Bellevue (your neck of the woods) and one time he came back to visit and I let him drive my car. He said his AP1 S2000 does indeed shift even smoother albeit very similar shift throws (his stock Honda shifter vs my STI short throw shifter).

where is "The 6" ...??

Thats a Toronto Raptors thing from the playoffs last year. Comes from our old original area code 41(6). Don't ask why, perhaps because their development team (farm league) is called the 905 (which is the biggest suburb area code near Toronto and the farm team venue is in the burbs).

Sorry Seattle lost their team, but they did very well last season in Oklahoma. My 9 yr old is a basketball savant, knows stuff as far back as when I was a kid.

Don't judge how the car was used by the age of the owner. Many of the young guys have this as their first car and baby it beyond belief. Many of the old guys (especially on here) drive the living crap out of them. You would be shocked at how many of the people on here are way older than you would expect.

My last few cars have been miatas, RX7's and RX8's, I'm over 50 and beat the crap out of my toy cars, the FT86 is something that can be beat on due to the "lack of power".

Accident cars can be repaired as good as new but it remains an accident car. If it comes down to one with a bit higher milage for the same price then always take the milage. There has to be a big enough savings to make the accident car worthwhile.

If the rattle on the gray car is a big concern, wait until you get some miles on an accident car.

Buying from a dealer does not mean you are getting an untouched car. People go back to stock to trade in and the dealer has no clue what was done to it. I would buy a car from a private party that discloses what had been done over a dealer one with total unknown history any day. Either way though it is a used car and there is zero way to know how it was treated so there is always a level of risk. If you can't afford new you have to accept that risk.

Bought mine from a dealer, I almost would have preferred that it was not modded (UEL, ECUTek tune and Nameless 5" offset exhaust) or that I could have spoke with the PO.

Although it doesn't hurt to think of any prievious mods as done wrong you can also just presume they were done right. You said yourself that you have limited experience but will do things "right". Little doubt anybody else doing mods also feel they did it right and they probably were close enough. If you are going to mod anyway then you should be able to correct anything you find wrong from before.

All my mods are "done right" until someone else thinks they're not

All in all don't expect to get a top level car for a bargain basement price. It just doesn't work that way.
Especially a low production car such as the 86

Miata's are a different story, most owners do not know what they have or how much it's worth. I paid $2000 for a 95 with 125k miles, hardtop, coilovers, ARB's, stock and aftermarket wheels. sold the hardtop for $800 in a day, sold the coilovers and put a better set that I had on the shelf, then sold the OEM wheels. Bam $500 track toy.

Look at prices on new cars. I'm sure you could get a crazy deal on a 2016 right now.

I think the blue one that was shared is better than the two you've seen. Generally speaking people don't really care much about leases.
As far as winter tires go you're probably better off buying your own anyways. How does the salesman know there's 70% tread left? Different tires start with different tread depths.

Take your time with it. I don't think either of the two cars you're looking at are really worth it.

Do you like white? Buy this ones! http://www.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks/c...ationFlag=true

I find a BRZ that isn't Sport Tech weird, but this is a little cheaper http://www.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks/o...ationFlag=true

There's also this one! http://www.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks/s...ationFlag=true

Unless you're sold on the look of the FRS, look into Sport Tech BRZ. Especially used, you're getting much more for essentially the same price!

choosing between 2 frs's (please help)

I know this is off lease but it's service history seems solid. Only had a glass claim.

You can convert the miles but don't use the conversation to US dollars in judging value. He isn't paying in US dollars so a dollar is a dollar for him since there is no exchange involved.

Haha it's 70 cents per 1 usd.

What's your honest opinion on that car?

Too little to go on to give a valid opinion really. Being a lease it has a reduced chance that it was modded (still a chance though) and the mileage is pretty normal. Have you actually seen it in person?
