Need help choosing kit
I'm finally ready to purchase my FI kit. Narrowed it down to two kits the vortech supercharger and the avo turbo kit. Don't really have a preference for ether turbo or supercharger my only goal is to get as close to 300- 350whp as possible with 91 pump gas. I know I can't get that with the kits on there own I know I'll have to get other bolt ons. I just need help with what kit can get me the closest to my goal. Not interested in other kits. OEM look is a must for me. Idk why just really like the clean OEM look. Thanks in advance.

The avo kit should get you there with some custom tuning and fuel mods. Plus it looks very oem. Don't think the vortec will get you there on 91.

I don't think it's realistic to hit 300whp on the AVO kit with 91. That's hard to hit on the larger turbo kits with 93 or E85. Look through the FI dyno thread / AVO owners thread to get a better idea.

I haven't had the avo kit very long but the power is good. It boost quick and makes a day and night difference. Just read through the thread and pick up some install notes from there if you're doing the install yourself.

The AVO kit can make 300 on 91. You will need a few supporting mods but nothing major. The base kit with no mods will make 240 all Day long at 5psi.

I've looked into the current avo threads and they seam to get pretty close I know I'll need full exhaust. Forgot to mention looking at a 2.5 inch rather then a 3" exhaust do to noise don't want it to be extremely loud. Will injectors and fuel pump help with whp at these levels or is it more of a safety thing to make sure the stock ones aren't maxed out?
And what about the vortech? Would it be that hard with some good headers all other bolt ons? |

Does peak whp really mean that much to you? Just because it can hit a certain number doesn't mean it'll be the power delivery you are looking for. There's a difference between the type of power you will see from the turbo or SC.

neither of those kits will make 300-350whp easily and reliably on pump gas. if you're on cali gas, you'd probably want to go with the ptuning kit with it's larger turbo (gt30). other kits offer turbo upgrades, but i'd stay away from the oil-cooled journal bearing turbos (50-trim, 60-trim, etc.) and by the time you add a gt30 to any of the other kits it pushes the price up to near that of the ptuning kit, which appears to be of far higher quality than others currently available in that sort of configuration.
and king tut is correct, a turbo is the best muffler you'll ever find. |

Peak power isn't the most important thing to me but it does matter this will be more of a street car then track and from my experience on the street your more ok the higher end of the revs. Yea I understand the power deliver is different but like I stated I don't have a preference on turbo or supercharger as long as I get to my goal. So if I can't get to 300whp on these kits then how close can I get I mean I wouldn't be happy with any less but I'd be content with like 285whp and up.
And thanx again for the help. |

for instance, my 'pro tune' had me knocking my way to 260whp on a mustang. my new tune is at least 20-30whp up on that with no serious knock in sight at the same boost level. nothing else on the car has changed. my car probably picked up another 10-20whp (and 1.5psi of boost) just from the temperature dropping here recently. so just because your car makes 285whp one day on one dyno doesn't really mean anything. i guess the point of my rant here is that you don't buy a kit for the purpose of reaching some particular number, because anyone can make a number on a dyno, that's the easy part. the hard part is making it drive like a stock car the other 99% of the time, not fall apart, etc. the important things are consistency, drivability, ease of ownership, component quality, and price. buy the kit that fits your needs in those areas. i can make a dyno show you whatever number you want .
