choosing between 2 frs's (please help)
hey guys, glad to be a part of this forum :)
When it comes to buying used cars, I'm extremely picky. i worry a lot about how others have used the car, their age (being that younger people are more likely to thrash the car than older people), the service history and such. right now i have an option between 2 2013 Frs'es -the first one is a dark gray one with no accident at 48,500 kms and comes with a set of winter tires (don't know what they are yet).. something rattles inside after 5k rpm, dealer said he would look into it though. -the second one is a black one with an accident claim for $2000 (1700 spent on the car by insurance) but only 38,000kms and doesn't come with a set of tires. (accident is on the left side...no other information available) both being the same price currently, Ive got both dealerships to agree on a price that is exactly the same with the same payments. when it comes to the service history, im a little concerned on both. the first one had an oil change sched as the following (dark grey one with 48500): 1st 5,800km 2nd 22,441km 3rd 31,400km 4th 43,500km the black frs with 38,000kms has had the following oil change intervals: 1st 10km (??) 2nd 8,600 3rd 9,500 4th 14,797 5th 19,050 6th 37,455 (huge gap..questionable) now they both could have serviced it elsewhere but that's whats on the carproof report for both cars. there both off lease and both come from a Toyota dealership i do like the grey more but I'm looking for the better option. your opinions are greatly appreciated! |
You worry too much , buy the one that you like better and enjoy.

That looks like a great deal, but I kinda want it off a dealership to be safe :x Quote:
Is it because it has no accident? Thanks for your input :)! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Between those two, I'd go for the dark grey one. No accident history and no weird gaps in the OCI. Go for a long test drive and make sure it drives well. If you're really worried, might be worth paying a few hundred dollars for a PPI.

neither OP...there are a shit ton of brzs and frs out there for sale with no accidents or rattles at a god price. keep digging. or you may end up with a car that has more issues you didnt expect and paying more for it. but thats just me. good luck in your search.

this is good advice. you took the time to research both cars, why limit yourself to these two? never settle. |
I hate to sound cheap but honestly, they're 19 grand for both. Dark grey one has winters and I'm planning on driving it up here in Toronto. Im thinking, whatever I save on the car, I can spend on it (I/h/e etc).
The dark grey one seemed ok but that rattle threw me off a bit. Also, There was a white frs for the same price but had a 5 grand claim on it. It felt solid while driving it but I was too worried about that collision claim. I'm kind of on a 20 grand budget at the current moment. There isn't a huge gap with the servicing of the dark grey one ? Thank you all for your input! :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Hello @allowe and welcome to our forum ......

Hey thanks for your reply, no both are completely stock (I'd like to mod it myself properly, I do have shop experience, but it's basic) sorry I forgot to mention, both are manual and I'm looking for a manual one Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

So, since they are both manuals, I'd suggest you listen carefully when you push the clutch in and out for any noise coming from the throw out bearing (usually a squeal sound). The TOB is a relatively common weak point in the drive train and would have to be replaced if it's acting up. Do they both shift smoothly ..?? Come back .....:) humfrz |
