Yes you will need a tune. If you have an unlocked tune the functionality could be easily added in. If not then you'll want to ask your tuner to turn all that stuff on if they were using EcuTek.

Hey guys, just a refresher for anyone shopping around for kits. We're getting these questions frequently so here's the answers again:

Is the kit plug and play?

YES. The instructions need to be updated, but there is no splicing or anything. Just plug the components in. Please do not cut any wires! Instructions are still valid on hooking up the fuel lines and where to plug in the power and ground.

Rear O2 vs EVAP:

Half dozen in one 6 in the other -- but the rear o2 is cheaper. We retain the power feed from the fuse block and not the ECU with either options. So no worries on voltage offsets or anything of the sort. If you are planning on doing an auxiliary wideband, then definitely go for the rear o2 so you can plug in the evap.

Is a free tune included?

Only for our existing customers. We will enable flex fuel functionality on your existing tune. If you've made other changes with parts purchased from another vendor, then a revision or a new tune will need to be purchased. A $579 flex fuel kit does not include a $799 tuning suite!

That is all, happy boosting everyone!

Hi,

Does this kit also 'plug and play' for RHD vehicles (Toyota 86's in Europe / Japan / South Africa)

Or does this kit need to be adjusted?

Thanks

For JDM/RHD vehicles with the hoses instead of push on fittings, we have a custom kit that uses the correct size hose instead of the "almost" correct AN lines. Just make sure to contact us when you place or your order and we'll set it up that way.

As if I didn't have enough stuff on my list of "want but can't afford" components, I'm liking the look of this. I do have a few noobish questions though.

This one is one of those "who cares?" kind of questions. What kind of mileage are people getting with this setup with corn in the tank?

And I see a bunch of people asking about tuning. I know nothing on the subject, so sorry if this sounds stupid. If I just want to plug all my stuff in (this, all my exhaust pieces) and have a tuner shop do all the tuning, I want nothing to do with it, what software/hardware do I need? Do I need that license and all the maps and stuff?

On E85 you will get about 25% worse economy than petrol

for flex fuel you will need

The Flex fuel kit including fuel lines flex sensor and cabling and possibly ethanol display.

You will then need the ECU software and settings (tune) to read and interpret the flex sensor readings.

Tune aprox $300
Ecutek ECU licience about $350
Ecutek cable to write/flash the tune to your ECU about $350, this is not needed if you go to tuner as they will flash it for you.

I believe some flex kits include the price of a tune, but probably dont include ECU licience.

This kit includes all the lines, right? The only components I'll need is the kit itself?

You got it, the kit is sold complete and with the better AN lines. You can choose rear o2 for the easiest install, or you can do the evap option for slightly more precision and leaving the rear o2 to do its job in closed loop. Tuning/license is extra as @steve99 mentioned above.

Are there any downsides to going thr rear o2 route?

I believe the rear 02 input is used to detect primary cat efficiency and for minor AFR adjustments during cruising (ie on highway)

The tune will disable and CEL codes and i believe remove any reference to rear 02 input. This may have a very minor effect on highway cruise economy.

Evap input wont effect this, however it will still be re-purposed in tune so not available as evap input to ecu

I believe you will still fail readiness tests if either rear 02 or evap is used as flex sensor input as these tests wont complete in the normal way.

AFAIK no tune system forces readiness test to complete when input has been re purposed or disabled.

This is the first time I've heard of this. So regardless of whatever option, FF kit will cause the OBD-II/O2 system to never achieve readiness state? I'd fail inspection in Texas for that (and have with previous car)

we get a freebie. it's the second "not ready" that fails you.

I'll be buying these as soon as Shiv gets the tune ready for the SBD turbo kits!
