Until that fateful day (it happened to all of us that drove single master cars) when the brakes were NOT there! To make matters even more interesting it was almost guaranteed that the E brake was seized solid or the cable was broke. I coasted to a stop around a block or two in my day.

Yeah, I learned how to do this on my first stick car (years and years ago). My last car had its pressure plate fail while I was driving, so I limped it to a shop without using the clutch. You never know when you might need to improvise.

I've read the middle pedal wears out the brake pads, so I've been trying to avoid touching it. The far left pedal wears out the clutch plate if you use it too much or improperly. Don't even get me started on how fragile the oil is!

I made a video of shifting the BRZ from 1st to 6th, then all the way back down with no clutch just to prove how easy it was but it was so boring I never posted it.

Some douche was saying that it was stupid to try to teach my kids how to do it while I taught them how to drive MT.
I think it is a good teaching aid to help them understand how it works.
Its not something you want to do a lot because that IS harder on the synchros unless you do it perfectly.

I learned in my Karmann Ghia when the clutch pedal broke completely off.
To get going from a stop I would actually turn off the engine, put it in 1st and start it...

on newer cars this is harder to do but on your VW the clutch didn't have to be pressed in for the starter to turn over. that's a great story though

Dude.. you have GOT to move out of Seattle to a place that gets some sunshine and doesn't rain every day... like Syracuse, NY.. no, wait... we get the same weather you do. Sigh.

Happened to me in my 64 Impala and my 58 Chevy wagon. There was no Flintstone them to a stop.

Old habits die hard. All my previous cars were real gems so I know the subconscious brake-pump well. All of it just comes back without thinking. I started double-clutching this one without even noticing. Just know how gearboxes work and don't remember a time when I didn't just do whatever it took to keep it happy.

I just started preaching about it here after reading all the complaints about the gearbox. Never been on a car forum before this one.

And the Throw-out on these cars can be a bitch for a lot of people since it seems to be such a shitty quality
