Clutch wear and pedal adjustment

As the clutch wears, the disk gets thinner.

This has the pressure plate moving in, towards the flywheel, as the disk wears and gets thinner.

The throwout bearing moves in the opposite direction of the pressure plate.

So as far as the adjustment at the pedal goes, as the clutch wears, at the pedal it should feel like it's getting tighter (engaging earlier) correct?

I don't believe you will be able to notice a difference in pedal play due to clutch wear ....

I'm trying to visualize the whole thing because so many people have issues with clutches a few thousand miles after installing (hard to get into 1st/dragging clutch) and many other people I see are recommending to LOWER the clutch adjustment.

This to me this means the clutch itself gets pushed in less. As you push the pedal, there's more pedal deadband before the clutch begins to be pushed on.

I personally raised my adjustment, so I have only maybe 1/2" dead pedal before I feel the clutch start to actuate, and so my clutch gets pushed in further, which opens the clutch more.
It made it easier to select 1st, and easier to launch in 1st.

BUT, as the clutch disk wears, it may tighten my adjustment up even more until the throwout bearing is being spun all the time, unless I stay on top of making sure I have the 1/2" of deadband pedal.

Other cars I've owned they suggested adjusting for the 1/2" of deadband pedal, not lowering the adjustment.

It just seems everyone is adjusting their clutches backwards to how I adjusted mine.

Correct, sir. No more than you can feel your brake pad wear through the brake pedal.

If anyone wants proof, pop the hood and compress the clutch fork into the slave cylinder. One pump of the clutch pedal and presto...

Mike, I hear ya because I also remember the days of clutch cables. Plenty of time spent twisting the wingnut both under the hood and behind the wheel.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't all modern hydraulic clutches self-adjusting? So the engagement point remains the same throughout the life of the clutch?
