OP swapped the door plungers/switches. Fault remained on the same side.

Bad wiring behind the plunger on the affected side?

That's what I'm thinking. Either that or a problem with the BCU.

It's not that bad. Instead of the dome light being connected through the door switch, a 5 volt logic signal exists on the wire. When the door is open, the switch closes and pulls the signal to ground. The BCU senses that change and triggers all the appropriate conditions like dome light, key and/or headlight warning, blah blah blah...

If there's an internal issue keeping that signal low, the result is the same. It's a long shot, though. More likely the wiring.

Sorry, problem resolved and I've been pretty busy.

I got in my car to leave my friends house (was going to head home before I unplugged the battery) and it worked fine all the way home. It's been a month and I haven't had a single problem with it yet. I have no clue what the issue was. Maybe just a weird hiccup that finally resolved itself, or maybe some sort of wire/contact issue that is sitting just right at the moment to work. We'll see if it comes back. If so, I may start tracing wires and see what I can find.
