I have a similar question as the OP. Costco has a sale on Mobil 1 5w20 for $27 for 6 quarts. Thinking about getting it for my FRS despite the factory recommended 0w20. I live in a location that doesn't see extremes in temps (cold or hot), SoCal. I'm boosted but the FRS is mostly a DD. Is there a real difference between 0w20 and 5w20 for me?

0W is tested at -35C and a 5W is tested at -30C. As long as you don't intend to be in temps lower than -30C you'll be fine. |

OP, unless you want your engine to explode, you must do the following:
First, you did go with the Fumoto, right? Good. Drain the oil immediately. Pour in Chevron Supreme 5W20 SN ILSSC GF-5 Dino. 5quart jug < $14 @ Walmart. It's hydrocracked. Moderate calcium (new study says this is GDI friendly idea!). Low phosphorus. (cat friendly). One of the lightest in weight 5W20. Ethanol friendly. A smidge of boron to boot. 3k mile OCI/FCI. Perfect maintenance with excellent ROI. |

This doesn't matter to the OP since he'll be in Kentucky, and it doesn't matter to most of the continental U.S./Canada unless you're in North Dakota or Saskatoon in the winter!
![]() Remember. Subaru Japan allows ACEA A3 0W-30 (and even 5W-40) which is much thicker in HTHS and kinematic viscosity than Mobil1 0W30. Just say no to girly man oil! |
