Happy to help. For what it's worth, I've heard of several people in my city with sports cars (vettes, etc) who have never been hassled about their front plate. It's really hit or miss. I confess that I ride dirty from time to time myself.

Edit: my understanding is the recent change to the law was to (re)add a penalty for the violation. Due to poor legal drafting, there was a period of time where it was illegal to drive without a front plate but there was no established penalty for doing so. That is, they could pull you over (I guess) but not give you a ticket. I think the recent change was just to fix that oversight.

Well if you put it THAT way, I personally did this to my BRZ because I wasn't happy with just the amber or the clear or smoke, I just decided to hide it altogether. Professionally painted. (Note, dirty car lol) It looks so much better to just not have it at all, and nobody notices it's missing which is the point.

Here's the thing about these kinds of tickets.. In all my experiences in several states, all you have to do is fix the issue and they will drop the ticket. Tint too dark? No front plate? Wrong lights? Fix it, take a picture, bring it to court, you're off. I have never not been given that option by the cop at the time of the ticket.

The last time it happened I was on my CBR and was ticketed for having insufficient reflectors, among a couple other things. My reflectors were on the back of the license plate screws, but apparently you have to have these atrocious things sticking out on both sides with big reflectors at the end. I didn't even screw them on.. I just rested them in place long enough to take the picture.

Or you can just pay the 40-100 dollars if missing work is more expensive, I don't think you even get points for these things. Years ago one of my friends got regular tickets for his tint and just sent them a check every time.

If I get pulled over more than once for the plate, I'll put a front one on just to avoid the hassle, but I'm going on 3 years without one and it's never been brought up even when I did get pulled over.

Another fun fact about Texas, you can get two speeding tickets a year without anything going on your record or any points. They also have a tendency to lose tickets, I've had 2 in the last 3 years that they wouldn't let me pay. The first one they actually mailed the check back to my old place in Virgina, the second one they said they couldn't find it and wanted me to bring it in so they could "stamp it". I just laughed and was like ok, and then never gave it another thought.

So I finally got some videos up. Sorry for the delay.. full day of work then a full night of picking up furniture. Got a really nice bedroom set off craigslist but it was two full truckloads an hour away. Not the best way to follow a weekend of installs.. pretty damn sore.

Anyway, here's the vids. I can take more, just let me know what you want. I don't have a go pro or anything, just using my Google Nexus5. If you want to see the RPM's I guess I could have a passenger hold the phone while I drive. Or maybe I'll just put a rubber band around my head and stick the phone in it for a poor man's go pro

Cold Start/Idle (it drops down to normal idle noise at about 50 seconds, at that point it is very quiet, 900ish RPM)

Very nice. Have you flashed the ECU yet? If so what tune file did you end up going with?

Yes, OFT Stage 2 93 octane UEL.

Seriously considering giving the E85 a try...

That's the same tune I'm flashed on. I'm not sure if you've had the chance to do some spirited driving, but the torque of the midrange RPMs are significantly better.

If you haven't already I'd subscribe to the OFT threads on here. People have reported a very noticeable difference in performance once going E85. I'm tempted to go resonated (catless) and see if that really opens up the car since I want to stay on 93.

What is your reason for wanting to stay 93?

Sorry, I thought by posting the links that would allow you to view them. It has worked in the past.. maybe I pasted the wrong link. I'll fix.

Edit: All videos should now be set to "unlisted" instead of "private"

mike how do you feel about the performance after the UEL and tune? is it noticeable?

have you had a chance to decrease the starting rpm to lower the cold start volume?

sounds raw as hell, im just afraid its too loud at startup, my neighbors would want to kill me..

thx

We did my car and 2 harleys last weekend, all 3 got header/exhaust. I'm sure my neighbors hate me right now. I started working from home in the mornings and don't head into the office til 9 or 10, so it hasn't been much of a problem so far.

I don't know how to lower the starting rpm. I assume there is probably an off the shelf tune similar to the one I already have that will correct it, but I haven't had the time or desire to find it just yet. I'll figure it out and give it a try, but I can tell you this, if you can get it to stay below 1,000 rpm's it is actually quiet as a mouse. It's incredible the difference 4 or 5 hundred rpm make. At 1400, it rattles things in my bedroom.

I'm having a hard time feeling out the gains because it sounds so aggressive now that everything feels faster. It's hard to differentiate between how it feels and how much faster it actually is. Also I've only been doing spirited driving. There are places I could redline it through the gears and get away with it. Every day I take a right at a stop sign onto a 50mph road, but with the exhaust noise and back end swiveling around it just causes such a scene...

If you are worried about the noise, it's really not unpleasant for normal driving. If you want to keep it quiet on the road it's not that difficult. It starts getting loud above 3500 i think. I'll get some driving video that shows the rpm this weekend.

Works now, thanks. Sounds pretty good. Hard to judge volume, but the tone seems great.
