And your water will only rise above 92C at idle NA, so fans are useless on track for most people. Also, if you run the fans on full the Coolant won't drop below about 90.

The external oil pump didn't work in the configurations we tried so we had to put it back the way it was to race this past weekend. Here are a couple short clips. Enjoy. Sitting in traffic by 25°C, coolant will reach 100°C easy peasy. Unless the A/C is on.

Yes I'm going to have to bring a spare transmission to each major race if I choose to race at 400 hp or less. More than that will require a different gearbox. |

Have you thought about getting the gearbox cryoed to see if that would make it strong enough ?? |

So sorry for the gearbox misfortune. Out of curiosity, each time that break is the same or it fails at different things? |

Time for some experimenting to make the stock gearbox stronger, like a new stronger tooth pattern for fourth gear and carbon syncros.

Yeah it's almost always the same set of difficulties, power, and how I drive. As mentioned a pump, cooler, and butch fluid goes a long way under track conditions. Cushioning and lubrication to the gears is super important to reducing stress and heat.
What happens is that I start missing shifts due to a "sticky" shift feeling into 4th and usually 6th. Then it usually breaks when I pull the trigger on a fast lap as I'm usually crashing the curbs and catching air. At this point a really expensive gearbox doesn't make much sense as the engines oil pressure is right at limit along with the gearbox. I feel we need to lick the oil pressure issue first so we can race at 450-500 HP. John Hotchkis and one of his engineers took a liking to our FRS at VIR and we chatted a long time about oiling etc as he worked on a NASCAR team. A lot of what he said also jives with the engineers at Joe Gibbs who talked to me at the UTCC race. The bottom line is oil volume and cooling. Given our Pro Comp engine can deliver enough oil pressure when temps are in control I'm inclined to follow their lead but not sure I can run 6 gallons of oil and an oil cooler the size of my radiator. I might hit Perrin up to either supply a "race" size oil cooler or even double up on what we have from them. |
