Anyone see if the filtermag actually keep stuff in the filter? I got one recently, and has been on for this oil change. I'll open up the filter and see if it actually holds stuff. I thought it would come with two sides to go around the whole filter, but it didnt.. so its a pretty expensive magnet. Hopefully it actually works! should be clear with my filter since one side has it and the other side doesnt. if it does, ill pick up another side

Not sure if it works this way but I'm thinking it's only half sided so if one were to open up the filter they could compare each side. Intrigued by this fjltermag as well but Damn it's expensive.

Anyone using the fumoto oil valve, did you use the gasket they supplied (nylon?) or did you use a metal subaru washer?

The idea I had was to insert a magnet around the drain plug. If you have an old hard drive laying around, this should work perfectly and would be about the same strength I would think. A hard drive has 2 magnets attached to a metal piece in the shape of about a half circle so you could surround the valve. I'd leave the metal on but you can take it off I suppose. Might make it harder to remove though. I'd throw a little grease on it to prevent corrosion too. The metal should get stuck to the bottom of the pan and should be removed when you drain the oil (provided you removed the magnets). I'm sure that there are other magnets that would serve the purpose, but this is the first thing that I thought of when looking for a roundish magnet to surround the valve. Any thoughts about this or do you see any problems with this setup??
Good idea. But it's possible that whenever it's drained, metal could accumulate in the valve and eventually clog. Maybe not at the first few oil changes, but eventually. Would be nice if the valve was designed to not clog and its plug were magnetic.
