Magnetic oil drain plug, effective?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Greddy-Magne...e63b6e&vxp=mtr

I was looking at these from Greddy, are they effective? Its pretty cheap, and did some research on google but mixed reviews. Thoughts?

I've got one. Nothing on it in two oil changes. Probably something to do with most metals that wear in an engine are non-ferrous.

I prefer a filter magnet. More surface area to catch stuff and it'll see all the oil pass by rather than waiting for debris to drift past.

Slap a good magnet on your filter and be done with it. Put a fumoto in that plug instead.

To my understanding....they're effective in that they show you metal debris once it's too late to do anything about it.

Like everyone said, filter mag seems to be the proper way to do this.

You can magnetize your own drain plug at home... or I can magnetize one for you. I do NDT inspections, I can hit it with a DC yoke and pass current thru it. Has to have high permeable metal though. Aluminum will not magnetize as it is not a ferromagnetic material. Not that anyone is using aluminum anyway, too soft a metal to be a drain plug.
