I believe this is called the "oh crap the key fob is in my wife's purse...now what am I going to do?" feature...
It would be pretty horrible if something like that happened. Drop your wife off somewhere. Stall the vehicle on a hill. And the car won't start again.

Agreed, it should notify you with a beep or something when the car is running and the key fob leaves the car. The Toyotas do so I bet it does.

It definitely does. While looking at the demo car yesterday the car continually beeped and had a "key is not in the car" sort of light that was on in the gauge cluster, because the key wasn't in the car.

Cool, I like the idiot light.
Not so big on another reason for the car to beep at me while I'm working on it. door open, lights on, seat belt not latched, etc.

Enough with the beeps

This was just while the car was running. It won't beep continuously if the car isn't running or in accessory mode.

Not saying it should turn off the car if you throw the key fob out the window at 100mph but it would be nice if it limited fuel or did something safe to prevent someone from driving it away when parked.
I assume it's referring to the fact that in most states leaving your vehicle running, but unmanned, is against the law (although not a moving violation, since the car is not in motion).

Also, if it works like Subaru's other proximity keys (with a manual) the eBrake activates the "ability" for the car to turn off when the keyfob leaves proximity range (automatic vehicles I assume activate in Park).

This is extremely important when you park in a flat garage and engage 1st gear instead of ebraking like SOME people do... leaving the vehicle running in your garage for hours before you notice...... Personal experience that I wish I didn't have, lol.

If it's like Toyota keyfobs (doubtful) I have no idea as I have no experience with them.

Leaving an unattended vehicle running (idling) is a moving violation. It's worth 1pt on your license and a fine, at least here in Maryland it is.

That is pretty wild, so I guess no remote starts in MD?

I think it's more along the lines of if a cop catches you. Most people are remote starting in their parking lot or garage, so that seems unlikely. Theoretically though, I suppose a cop could get you for that.
