Keyless access option on limited
I searched the forums and couldn't find anything on this but will the keyless access option be available upgrade for the premium model (like the fog lights)? Or is it only on limited models?
Thank you! |
I think you have the trims backward.
|
Premium has the normal key w/built in remote.
Limited is the higher trim level with the "Keyless access with push button start". The Keyless system has 6 proximity sensors throughout the car along with associated wiring, capacitive-touch door handles, and a different center IP stack that also has the auto HVAC, which itself is more complicated than the manual HVAC. Adding the Keyless access to a Premium car would likely be more expensive than simply buying a Limited to begin with. |
The Premium has a keyfob with keyless entry (i.e. you press a button on the keyfob and the doors unlock, you turn the key in the ignition to start the vehicle).
The Limited has a proximity keyfob (i.e. you touch a spot on the door handle to lock/unlock the doors, and push button start) The Limited's method will not be available as an option on the Premium. |
Does anyone have experience with the Toyota push to start in a MT vehicle? I know that the Prius can be running but if the proximity keyfob is not in range you can not shift the car out of park and drive it away (great for quick 7-11 stops). Wondering if the ability to drive the car is disabled (and how) when the car is running but the key is not present?

I believe this is called the "oh crap the key fob is in my wife's purse...now what am I going to do?" feature... :) |
Surely the car shuts off if the fob gets out of range?
|
No, its a safety feature in case for instance the battery in the fob dies you wouldnt want your car to turn itself off in rush hour traffic. Therefore once started fob is irrelevant until attempting to start the car again.

Not saying it should turn off the car if you throw the key fob out the window at 100mph but it would be nice if it limited fuel or did something safe to prevent someone from driving it away when parked. |
I think the safe way to handle that is to turn the car off when you aren't driving it. I don't understand why people leave their cars running in the parking lot when they go into stores.

Funny how the semantics works with the BRZ. Premium is the lower trim, and Limited is the higher trim. From looking at the words, you'd just assume Limited means it's LIMITED in options, LOL, and Premium is HIGHER/BETTER :D
