Easiest oil change

topside pump oil change via dipstick tube + topside filter change = painless

Anything I can do to circumvent going underneath my car, I'll do it.

how many times can you keep doing that way though? the oil drain plug washer is supposed to be replaced every oil change.

Only because its a crush washer...if you do not remove the bolt the washer doesnt need replacing....

I just installed one of these.



Fumoto oil drain valve.

Now the hardest part of oil changes is finding something to keep me occupied while I wait for it to drain.

all of the contaminants and sediment wind up on the bottom of the oil pan so you are continuously putting that stuff through your engine if you just suck the fluid out the top vs. draining out of the bottom of the pan. sure it's easier but you're not doing your engine any favors

Most of that stuff should be in the oil filter anyways.

no filter is capable of 100% removal of contaminants, if that was the case then the oil you drain would always be perfectly clean...it's transparent when you put fresh oil in and black when you drain it out

Well then the logic for the reverse is true then, since you're draining the oil, there will still be oil left in the motor in the nooks and crannies, which means there will still be contaminants in the engine....unless you actually do an engine flush (which I don't think anyone does).

of course, you can't remove 100% of the oil either, but gravity is definitely your friend and the heavier stuff will find it's way to the bottom and you are still going to remove a significantly greater amount this way vs. the topside extractor

Takes less than 10-minutes to do an oil change with the Fumoto valve. I don't even need a tube or a drain pan. I just position an old motor oil bottle underneath the valve and let it drain right into the bottle and then drop it off at an auto shop. Can't get any easier than that.

Topside oil changes are fast and convenient...
Thru the pan is more complete in cleaning out the sump.

Except the stock oil pan drain plug isn't magnetic.
