Pump failure can cause a lean condition and detonation. I'm not sure what happened but a drop in DI pressure on a log does not mean the DI pump is bad.

What I'm trying to say is that if indeed the log shows a drop in DI pressure when the motor let go. I would check the intank pump first.

The low pressure fuel pump in the tank can be installed incorrectly and look as if everything is fine but not develop the pressure it needs to under high loads.

There's many people, including my car that the fuel pump needed to be reinstalled correctly.

As Full Blown has said, if the in-tank fuel low pressure pump doesn't give the HPFP the fuel it needs, it will show up as a pressure drop/low pressure at the HPFP.

Gotcha that's a good point also because my test ride was smooth and the fuel pump wasn't installed at the time... This has so many variables & degrees of complexity that I just want to be over with this. Ill have to have them check the fuel pump also because I do NOT want this happening again, I would throw a fit. I'm gonna make sure to stay ontop of this & get this all checked, thx both of you!

That right there answers my question. So it's possible I was just having a hard time finding out how true this was. Thanks!

I think his point was that a mechanical pump failing and causing your engine to blow up was extremely unlikely. Even moreso when you factor in that they replaced your in tank pump recently

Yeah, I'm theorizing that they possibly mis-installed the electronic fuel pump & therefore as he said, the reading was low because the feed to the DI pump was poor. My previous guess had the fuel pump (mechanical/electronic) would not cause detonation was poor tune... So it's a toss up but seems like possible poor pump installation. Well at least I have some plausible explanations & areas to check on to make sure no repeat

Did they actually show you any of those "engine logs"?

It sounds to me like they blew it up and then started looking for things they could use to say it wasn't their fault. Mechanical fuel pumps don't fail very often. In fact I've never seen or heard of anyone claiming failure of a mechanical fuel pump before now.

The paperwork they showed you, which says it is not detrimental to the fuel pump or engine, is for the crickets issue, not failure of the pump. (The pump makes noise with ethanol in the fuel, but it's not hurting anything)

If they haven't touched the car since the "blow-up", you could check your fuel pressure. It's supposed to be around 48-52lbs I think.

If your pump was installed incorrectly without the correct O-ring stack, or spacer, you'll have like maybe 10lbs or less. Enough to start and run the car, but not enough for boost or high load.

This could confirm incorrect installation and confirm their fault.

This. Get the logs and post the logs so we can review them and tell you what really blew the motor.

So how much is the new mechanical fuel pump since that is what "failed" and blew your motor?

@Mujen84 feel free to contact me if you're interested in getting the car tuned properly. judging by what i saw with the last customer (who posted in this thread earlier), your car didn't blow due to any mechanical failure.

EDIT: i'm a vendor now... it's just not showing up for whatever reason... so please keep the dogs at bay for a moment until it's reflected.

Does this mean you worked it out with @King Tut or this is your own thing?

Also, many congratulations.
