BRZ Blown engine question

my guess is boost spike or poor fuel pump install. Sounds like they are full of shit and trying not to shell out the cash for an engine.

My car was used to prototype the Treadstone turbo kit originally. I had to get my car back before they finished the exhaust, so they used the red FR-S to finish up. As for the BOV, it isn't vented to the atmosphere, so no "woosh" sound. They're designing a VTA option now, so you can add it if you want the woosh sound.

BTW, which turbo did you get?

I wouldn't say they don't know what they're doing. They designed their own kit for the twins I believe, so I'd assume they're tuning quite a bit of them. I've sent several logs to tweak the tune and the car runs fine.

Even if my di pump failed my ecm should lift the throttle for me before it becomes catastrophic. That's what a good tuner should tune in. Next time wire a wideband into your factory ecm, use a 3 bar map sensor and use a tuner who does throttle cuts based on afr and boost. I had an injector issue on the dyno at 461whp and my tuners failsafes shut it down safely. Sounds like you have a bad tuner.

I had my first brand new car when I was 21 and it was my first tuner car as well. I had my fair share of mistakes through experiences where I was taken advantage of due to my ignorance. Not stupidity. So to feel like a fool is simply a learning experience. Yet this situation is not over and you can get exactly what you want out of this. Take legal action and get your new motor. Just as much as you will need evidence he blew it up. He will need evidence that he did not. I would bet on you over him. Get him!

His solution is I buy a new engine & he'll install fr free labor.. my dilemma.. Was this all a fluke mistake or is it suspicious for abuse/mis-tuning? Should the shop be fully responsible or is this arrangement fair?

Borg Warner EFR 6258 to be tuned for 330 whp, same as the red FRS he told me. He basically flashed the same tune to my car as he said he didn't have any dyno time. I know he uses AWD's dyno as I've been there before.

I wish I knew how to work on cars myself, I could avoid a lot of drama. I actually purchased some tools so I've done simple stuff like brake stuff & oil changes. I don't have an engine mount so some other stuff would be rly hard esp with my inexperience but I rly like the info I find online & YouTube.

I would ask for a copy of all the logs, James or circuit motorsports should be able to get your tune sorted once the engine issue has been dealt with. I personally feel the failure is tune related but with out seeing all of the logs it is hard to point fingers.

Don't pay for a new engine, this is their fault and THEY should be responsible for fixing their fault.
