We tried the AEM one and it actually seemed to make things a tad worse. I have to check the logs and see if I have some of the street tests we had with it. There was a piece of plastic on the AEM one that we were thinking may be causing additional turbulence. We did not try a straightener.

We however did find a way to smooth it out via tuning and I was scheduled to have it on the dyno this afternoon for "some" testing to see how it worked out but I might not have enough time to finish the testing. I thought we were going to have to cancel the dyno session today but we might still be able to swing it.

Yes my car is dead but I have a friend who has been letting me use their car for testing purposes!

Also note I don't have a problem with the knock issues before digging deep into this to see if we could resolve it with a physical solution (instead of tuning). We are just seeing if we can fix the AFR bumps caused by the bad MAF readings and see if we can net any additional low end power. I'll post back this evening if I manage to get the car on the dyno!

Oh also in the logs above that "blip" of lean-ness was from a DI ratio issue, we fixed that its fairly flat now.

Managed to get the car on the dyno this afternoon. However we were squeezing in between appointments and didn't get time to finish. I'll get it back on next week to see how things work out and see how much I can push the car on MAF vs SD based tuning to see if its even worth using or considering. We only had time to re-dial in the cam's for the car and do some minor testing.

I just got this intake, and am not clear about whether the filter element has been oiled already. I don't want to over-oil it so would appreciate an answer, if anyone knows. Thanks,

So just a tiny update... I am going to see if we can squeeze doing OEM airbox at some point this week an make some minor tweaks to the MAF so it is a fair comparison. I am also going to try to remove the snorkel and tweak the MAF to get it as close as possible with the TRD intake as we were seeing a lot of turbulence with it removed on the bench but didn't have a higher enough CFM vacuum source to check how it was at a higher volume. But I am going to try to setup a dyno session if possible for later this week and see if we can quickly remove the snorkel to test before & after on MAF, vs SD to see how much of a turbulence difference.

I am hoping with SD we can maybe pickup a few HP up top without losing much if any in the low end, but on MAF I am expecting to see the low end suffer due to turbulence skewing the AFR a bit. I had a local with an OEM intake and no snorkel with wide swinging MAF voltages that I had done a quick street tune with about two weeks ago.

Hooray for actual tuned before and after dynos ?! I would love to do more testing on other parts but damn it gets expensive renting dynos! :P

To answer my own question, since no one else seems to be reading this, yes, it is oiled before delivery. Though, to be honest, it didn't feel oiled to me, but then I'm comparing to K&N motorcycle filters that I've oiled myself. Anyway, there you go.

No offense, but no one responded because it was rather obvious to most.... It is written in the documentation and was in large print on a half sheet of paper included with the intake that I received.

And what was their test procedure? OEM ecu reset? Simple swap? There is a lot of bits that could be bad.

If for example you ran the dyno on a car that did not have a freshly cleared IAM it would be at 1.0 advancing the timing slightly. If you swapped the intake and reset the ECU the timing would be pulled back. I have been tied up but I am hoping we can actually do some before & after dynos of a TRD soon.

That really doesn't mean anything. You can't just slap on a intake a dyno it and expect valid results.

I'm planning on dynoing my car coming up. I have a dyno from the same place last year before I had the trd intake, k&n filter and perrin intake tube at the time. The only other thing that changed is I have wheels that are 4.5 lbs per wheel lighter now.

Ok so I don't feel like reading through all this. But I have a TRD drop in and Perrin inlet hose, with full exhaust. Will this really do anything better for me with a tune than my current intake setup? I know untuned, a drop in is pretty much the same gains. But for tune, I'm not sure. Any help is appreciated.
