The paint on these cars is shitty and really thin. Consider yourself lucky if that's the only rock chip.

First chips are the most painful. What sucks is that I have less than 1000 miles and I get a big chip.

Touch up paint. If you're not good at blending them in, ask a friend with an older car to practice on their car. Once you get the hang of it, they'll look less pimply. For slight pimples or roughness, you may be able to correct with a mild rubbing compound to even it out, then wax over it.

Yes, I believe ABS stands for the mixture of Acrylic, Butyl, and Styrene.

Apply touch up up with a tooth pick, slightly overbuild, give it a few days to cure 100%, sand VERY, VERY lightly with 2000 to smooth it out to surrounding paint and buff out the area with something like scratch X followed by Meguiar's UC. Works very well and will be generally invisible unless your right on top of the panel.

You are correct. ABS is a rigid plastic, it will only flex so far before it cracks. On the other hand, Polyurathane is a flexible plastic, it will flex much, much more than ABS before it breaks and that the reason Polyurathane is used to make car's bumper. As for painting, since polyurethane is flexible, there is special additive added to the paint & clear coat to prevent cracking.
