sorry haven't seen the data coming in, what kind of improvement are people getting?

with quick math last night i was figuring a couple years for one to pay for itself with a 2mpg improvement factoring the miles i drive (750ish week, probably garaged for winter).

This saves gas at cruising speeds by reducing drag. Backing off the gas won't do that unless you like driving under the speed limit.

Makes sense for race cars but not your FRS. its no different than the shopping cart wings everyone screams ricer over. As far as aesthetics, which is purely subjective, i can appreciate the craft work but i just dont like the look.
They're gaining more than 1-2 mpg, shaving more than 0.05 seconds AND improving stability at speed.

The drag reduction (and resulting increase in mpg) and increase in stability is a very good thing on a street car. This is nothing like a giant shopping cart wing that adds drag, they have definitely compromises (beyond looks).

You can say you don't like the look all you want, but the rest of your arguments won't hold any water.

I am late to the discussion, but I love my OEM-style lower diffuser thingy.
I have the un-textured (I didn't know there was a difference when I ordered mine).
It mounted up easy (drilled just two additional holes) and I think it completes the rear of my car now - I have the Rexspeed CF Lower side and rear skirts and it ties in nicely.
Now if there was a glossy CF-version, I'd replace the current one for sure

Yes to "diffuser" and I use that term loosely. It cleans up the look of the rear end. A proper diffuser hidden under the muffler would be nice from a functional standpoint though.

Wow, that looks awesome! Post up some more pic's!

Thought I'd join the diffuser party and share my DIY that I've had on the car for over a year. It was a difflow diffuser for an elise/exige that I retrofitted. Making a new exhaust design was certainly fun!

It's actually sitting in my garage, missing 2 of the insert fins. That and the center exhaust are just sitting there... If nobody wants them, they're getting cut up and tossed, and I'd hate to do that.

I ended up making a different setup, and running a *slightly*(Seriously, not much was changed) S14 Apexi N1 3in. exhaust.

Yeah yeah... There's a can out back, but it sounds AMAZING, and really doesn't look terrible at all. I'm pleased.

***Photos are screwed with to try to get the best visual of the darn thing. My phone doesn't like taking pictures of black painted objects... I think it's racist.

Also, I can't really vouch for the accuracy of the mpg display, but I have noticed this:

These are all my averages, reset before I leave each way.. about 5-7 miles city driving/25-30 miles highway combined on my drive to work one way.

Muffler delete: 27.5 avg.
Muffler delete with the diffuser I just took off: 29mpg avg.
Apexi. N1 with the diffuser in the pictures: 34.7-36.4 avg. mpg.

My driving style doesn't change. I zip around in the city areas, then do 5-10mph over the speed limit with cruise control set. Speeds on the highway are 55-70. I usually do 65-75. I've been logging this new setup since Sunday.

I really think it has to do with the change in area coverage/and angle of the flat portion of the diffuser/number of fins. I think the old setup had too much going on.

I liked the first version better. But that one looks awesome too. I would love to buy the first one off you but I'd like to keep the black pastic that houses the reverse light's.

I couuuuuld pop out all of the rivets and ship it, then you could make modifications to keep the reverse light! If I didn't completely remove the rear valance, I could have kept a majority of it.
