Does it matter? Coolant should be constant around 190f at operating temp no? Oil would be happy to be heated up to that point faster and if the oil is hotter it would be cooling it off to keep the temperature constant? I honestly don't know what the temperature delta is between "fresh" coolant from the rad and heat saturated coolant going into the rad.

This is what AVO turbo uses to water cool the turbo. I also think water temp shouldn't be much higher the steady temps the coolant always keeps so I think this is a good idea.

Coolant is coolant, the "coolest" it gets is whatever the thermostat opens at... Otherwise it's always going to be cooler than the engine oil once everything is warmed up. I do like the idea of getting the oil up to operating temps a little quicker as well.
Do as you wish, Just figured it was an easy place to get a supply and return, just moving it from one location to another.

Dear @regal,
You are a silly sausage. Manufacturers have been using this type of heat exchanger for twenty years or more. They're a very low warranty item. I've never seen one fail, personally. Yours sincerely, Unicorn |

This is an open idea thread of course!Quote:
The inlet coolant on the throttle comes from the heater hose, and the outlet goes into the crossover pipe. It might be good to splice it from the heater hose pipe side, but I'm not sure the piping is large enough... Its pretty small, I need measurements! |

I keep forgetting there is a Forester XT in the garage thats perfect for getting measurements off of, LOL!
Anyway, the oil cooler coolant lines are 1/2"... MUCH larger than the throttle body coolant lines, so those are not an option :/ I need to find out the thread/size of that bolt hole on the water pump that might work for adding an extra coolant nipple thingy to. |
