Just use a drop in filter and if space allows get a duct if you really want but IMO money could be spent at other places if you go FI to get better performance gains. I would much rather put that 3-400 bucks you use on an intake for a nice exhaust. If you go FI why not get something like a nice titanium exhaust which would benefit much more than a dumb intake where its mainly for the sound than anything else. 3-400 bucks more on a cat back/exhaust will get you a much higher quality exhaust and you would probably just need a little more to get an even nicer exhaust depending what you want. If your budget was say 900-1000 for an exhaust you could use that 300-400 you saved from an intake and get something like Greddy/Trust GTS exhaust. That is probably the only Non TI exhaust I would pay 1500 for since it looks and sounds amazing. I personally love the design. Or you can get a Tomei or Amuse full titanium exhaust. Intakes are a waste of money. A drop in would be good enough especially if you have go FI with a kit like Innovate or AVO that keeps the stock air box. I am sure they would come out with a better intake too in the future if you really want something other than the OEM box. But why mess with something thats already working/designed well. If you arent FI and want some better induction sound then get an intake. I personally would spend it on an exhaust as that sound is much more satisfying in the end. |

Exhausts are a waste of money. They are afterall just a series of metal tubes. Save some money and have your local exhaust shop fabricate one for you.
Or like Dsport proved, just get a muffler delete and save almost all your money. This TRD intake is the first quality OEM intake I've ever seen for a Subaru engine. It really should come from the factory with these screw the noise generator. |

I've seen proven gains from just the header and a tune. Technically from the catback there is no significant gain which is why Nameless only recommends an axleback (for the sound).
The real gains after the header would be removing the cat in the front pipe which is where the most restriction is. That being said. I have a CAI and a catback. Some can tell me they are useless but it does not make me any less happy with my choices. |

What tuners are you guys using with the TRD intake? I've read it wasn't the best intake to tune with (forgot which tuner mentioned it). So far this has been my experience with a remote tune, experiencing tip in knock and rattle noise from 3.5k to 4k rpms after multiple data logs and edits. These issues are persisting so I'm going back to stock tune with transient timing fix which I've had no issues with.

I think Drift Office said the intake made some turbulence which was difficult to deal with but they seemed to get it down well. I would contact them. Let us know what he says. |

Here is a sample of the dips and hump vs our requested AFR: ![]() And in comparison here is a more detailed view of MAF voltage vs requested AFR. You can see spots where the maf voltage swings quite a bit (giving upwards of 40% error margin) and then later on in the higher RPM range it smooths its self out. ![]() The solution we are using as of current (which isn't fantastic) is to pull timing and just 'average' the two against our current target AFR. This works but obviously doesn't let us push the car to its potential due to air readings. However last night we were not getting knock feedback in our tests as we simply pulled ignition to compensate for the swings. This just gives a little less power in the lower region. We are planning on attempting to mess with the actual intake today to see if we can alter the turbulence effect today. We are going to try an alternative post-maf pipe, and remove, and if needed put in a modified snorkel to see if it changes how air flows during this region. I would be more than happy to take a look at your logs if you would like. I'll pm you my contact info if you would like to chat.
